10 Secrets of Effective Web Design

Theres plenty to know about designing a website. So much, that you can never stop learning! But here are a few basic secrets of effective web design that everyone should know!!
1. Remember the 3-click rule. Visitors should be able to find the information they are looking for in 3 clicks or less, or you will lose 75% of them.
2. Make sure you can be contacted. ALWAYS put contact information on your site where it is easily found, so that visitors my write you with questions or complaints.
3. Check and recheck spelling. Use the spell checker, and recheck again! Lots of mistakes makes you look like an amateur.
4. Update Often. The more you update, the more visitors you will get. Try to change or add something at least once a week.
5. Keep it Consistent. Dont design every page with a different background or setup. You want your visitors to KNOW they are still at your site when they switch pages! Create a template, and use it!
6. Promote it and they will come. Do some kind of site promotion EVERY day.
7. Two or LESS Banners! Place no more than 2 banners per page. Fill your pages with great content instead of all those banners.
8. No background sound. This can even crash some browsers.
9 . No busy backgrounds. Plain colored or slightly textured backgrounds keep the text easier to read.
10. No discouragement!! Dont let yourself get discouraged! We all start somewhere. Keep working, keep learning, and work some more!!!
