...
Tridgell is currently working on the next major release of Samba, version 4, that has five goals: protocol completeness, extreme testability, non-POSIX backends, fully asynchronous internals and flexible process models.
"Samba4 is reaching an important milestone as a complete re-write of the old Samba code with the ambitious goal to be able to become an Active Directory Domain Controller," Tridgell said. "I'm excited about my new role with OSDL and being free to dedicate my energies full-time to Samba."

No more Carnivore, but what is worse?
From Slashdot: Carnivore No More
Hmm, so what is the replacement? What are those 'unspecified commercial surveillance tools'?

discuss: LJ outage & disaster recovery
From Slashdot: LiveJournal Servers Go Down
From Something Positive, some humor on the downtime
For those of us in the Information Security realm, disaster recovery is one of those things we think (worry) about and home we never have to put the plans into action. Evidently someones plans did not work as expected. Any thoughts or insight into LJ's disaster & recovery plan? What went wrong?
Did this give you any fears or ideas with your recovery plans?

Today I conceded the defeat of my petition to work part-time from my home office. I recently lost my office after my firm decided to sublet half of our office space and I was left only with the option to return to my old desk. My desk area is really nice corner slot with two great views of Los Angeles but I dread going back because it's too close to the reception area and so its extremely noisy. After my boss reiterated that employees are not allowed to work remotely (although it is entirely possible), I decided not to pursue the matter any more and agreed to move my things back to my corner desk area. What's more disappointing is that my memo was written using what I'd learned from The Secrets of Power Negotiating. I really thought it was a knockout.
Have any of you successfully petitioned to work remotely, even part time? If so, what was your method?
