Java/JSP developers on Tomcat and Application Server administrators.
Problem
Tomcat 5.5 (unlike Tomcat 5.0 and versions below) comes with Eclipse JDT compiler enabled by default for JSP compilation. JDT compiler is not jdk 1.5 compliant as of now.
Ok, I've got a question for all the professionals out there. I've been looking for a while now to get into server-side web programming (PHP, ASP, JSP, SQL) for a little while now. While I do have experience working with these things working on personal projects, I have no professional experience. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what I can do to more effectively represent myself in this way.
In terms of skills, I'm talking a heavy PHP/MySQL background, with a focus on content managers and database served content.
Just hoping someone might have some pointers. Feel free to ask me any questions.
I was responding to a pdf viewing (using java) question on Artima - http://www.artima.com/forums/flat.jsp?forum=1&thread=96447&start=0&msRange=30.
After I submitted my comments I noticed that the first AdSense ad contained the same link I had posted!
Looks like very soon AdSense may supplement the java and other technology experts!
The funny thing was the previous response which states - no [...]
I am so happy! Now we have an expression language to create an expression language! Next we need an expl (my shortened form of expression language) to create an expl to create an expl ... ad-infinitum.
Get a sense guys! Haven't you heard YAGNI?

Yet another new JSP expression language?!
Well, it's not just one new kind [...]

I found the solution and follows under the solution cut!
I have created the following dynamic HTML columns Col1, Col2, ... I need to access these named variables and assign them to both a javascript and java/jsp variable. Any ideas on how to do this.
Old Code
<%for (int x=0; x id='HRankCol<%=CurrRank.intValue()%>' name=HRankCol<%=CurrRank.intValue()%> value ="<%=CurrRank.intValue()%>"/ > id='HRankFillQty<%=CurrRank.intValue()%>' name=HRankFillQty<%=CurrRank.intValue()%> value ="<%=CurrRank.intValue()+1%>"/ > <%}%>
JSP current code not working ....
function fred() { var f = document.all.frmFixFill; for (var x=0; x { alert(f.'HRankFillQty'+x.value); } }
The new fred function: function fred() { var f = document.all.frmFixFill; var fillname = null; for (var x=1; x<=f.HiddenRankCntColumns.value; x++) { fillname = "document.frmFixFill.HRankFillQty" + x + ".value"; alert(eval(fillname)); } }

I'm running into a little snag with webforms. I'm a bit more experienced in this area using JSP, as I actually know what the proper command for it is. But anyway. I'm looking for the command/class in C# that would be comporable to the request.getParameter(); function available in JSP (It's used to get form parameters that are submitted across multiple pages using sessions.
But, what I'm trying to do is not exactly that. I've got a web form that has a function attached to the submit button. I'd like that function to be able to pull all the values off of the form and stick them into a session to be retrieved on the next page, and I'm not quite sure how to do it in ASP.NET using C#.
Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks! --Lisa
P.S. if this is a little disjointed, I apologize. I'm running on a poor night's sleep and not functioning quite normally.
I know this is a tall order, but does anyone have an old java/jsp/access db webshop project lying about that they'd like to share with me? Or even point me in the write direction of some coding. I have to create an online sports club with login+shop, and I've just come to a dead end. I don't seem to be getting anything working. Thanks for any input.

excellent site for help with your computer programming. there seems to be a good bit of source code in here on these languages: Ada, ASP, Assembler, C, C#, Cpp, ColdFusion, Delphi, Eiffel, Erlang, Fortran, Java, JavaScript, JSP, Lisp, Lua, Mathematica, Matlab, ObjectiveC, Perl, PHP, Prolog, Python, Ruby, Scheme, Smalltalk, SQL, Tcl, VB, VB.NET

They are redirected from a jsp script using the dreaded 302 redirect. It has the effect of potentially replacing your page in the search engine with a furl page.

I was a long time user of mycgiserver.com which is the first and only provider of free JSP Hosting that I am aware of. As some of you know it was saved at the last minute by Rick H of JavaLobby fame, who supported continual survival and health of the company. The site was renamed [...]
I'm running in J2EE world (JSP/JSTL/Servlets the like), and am having problems pulling a field back from my page, or, I'm having problems actually locking the element.
If I use the disabled property, a null (or no object) is returned back to the backend (servlet). However the front end acts like I want it too. If I use the readonly property, I can never seem to enter text in even if using javascript to change the property to false. Suggestions?
Update and Solution: To properly reference the readonly attribute in javascript, captilization matters. I'm now referencing elem.readOnly and it works beautifully.
Anyone have specific printer recommendations? I had an Epson C64 that I was very happy with, but it recently malfunctioned on me and it's just not worth getting it serviced. I paid $60 for it about a year and half ago. Not exactly the greatest lifespan for a printer, but oh well. I've never heard of Epson's doing this before, so I'm assuming mine was a fluke. As far as printing goes, I've been told that Epson is for quality and HP is for speed. I want quality.
I haven't taken the decision lightly. After due process and due consideration of all factors I decided I am going to shun all established Java frameworks and go back to basics for my next project. I will stick to Java, JSP and Servlets only. The benefits doesn't seem worth the cost.
I will keep you [...]
Has anyone here ever used FileMaker Pro (http://www.filemaker.com/)? I have one client who is starting up a Pilates studio and she's looking at http://www.pilatessoftware.com for her internal management. She would also like to have the website interact with it (ie. have members log in and register for classes, etc.) It seems that the network ready version of the Get Physical (pilatessoftware.com) uses FileMaker as it's underlying database. The FileMaker site has the following:
ODBC/JDBC source Exchange data with other applications via the ODBC/JDBC source support in FileMaker Server 8 Advanced. For example, you can replicate FileMaker information to other database products, use other reporting tools with FileMaker data, or build JSP or ASP websites based on FileMaker data, using popular tools such as Lasso Studio, Dreamweaver MX 2004, Adobe GoLive CS, and Microsoft FrontPage.
So it seems that I can get the info from the program but does anyone know if I'd be able to send info back to it? or is it a one-way channel?

Here is a list of top 10 java features I constantly use and highly recommend; features which makes Java great as a language and platform.
JSP & Servlets - Most of java development today is arguably done on JSP & Servlets. It is the most widely used part of EJB specs today.
Platform independence - It works [...]
