pc card issues

I've been googling all day and I just can't find a solution to the problem. I bought a firewire card for my PCMCIA slot and it installed itself correctly but when I plug in anything, like my ipod or my external harddrive it just won't recognize either.

I opened up the device manager and there are yellow exclamation points under a section called SBP2 IEEE 1394 Devices. It just won't install the drivers, it won't update, and in some cases like with my camera it even says it's not connected even though it is. Anyone got any ideas how to remedy the problem?
