puzzling error (s)

Hi all. I recently had to do quite a bit of work to get my server back online,
and I at that time thought I needed to temporarily connect the drive to my
Optiplex GX110 to reinstall Lilo. And stupid me, forgot that I could have just
used boot floppies and eliminated about half the work I did in swapping the
drive in and out about 2 or 3 times. Anyway, right now I am stuck with a desktop
machine that refuses to boot. According to a sighted acquaintance of mine who
read the screen to me, about half the screen is full of "l070707." This doesn't
seem to be boot-device specific, since I found that even booting from floppy
produced the same result. At first I thought it could be the riser board that
wasn't fully seated, so I removed and fully reseated it into the slot on the
board. The only thing that seems peculiar to me in that regard is that in the
low-profile case that this system is housed in, the cage seems to be somewhat
loosely seated in its slot; might this have anything to do with why I get this
weird error? My guess is probably not, since this didn't seem to fully fix the
problem. I also find that once in a while, I can get the system to boot from
floppy; however, it still refuses to boot from HD. Anyone have any ideas what
the root cause of this could be? I asked the guy who was reading me the screen
as to the sequence of events were before the l07's came up, and he told me that
it went straight from the Dell logo to that. I'm not sure if that has any
significance, however I thought I'd include it. Thanks in advance for any
    insight into this.
    Edit:
I seemed to have fixed it by reinstalling Lilo into the MBR, just as I had to do on my server. However, that error itself is still quite curious, since I haven't been able to turn up any info
    on it thus far.
