Free MPEG-2 Decoders?

Anyone know of any free MPEG-2 DVD decoders suitable for allowing Windows Media Player to play DVDs on a laptop?

I'm going on a trip and the laptop I've been given to use has no decoder - I'd buy one, but that would be $25 wasted as I have to just give the laptop back when I return.

This sounds like something that someone has likely released some freeware for, yes?
