Macs

I've been considering buying a mac for a while now (iBook), after years of being an adamant x86 advocate. All the old arguments for sticking with x86 have gone. I don't play games on my PC anymore, consoles are now cheap enough to buy, and new consoles cost less than a yearly upgrade to the PC. I hate windows and really want to get away from it. I like linux but haven't learnt it properly and want Something That Just Works(tm). I'll keep my PC for when I need windows/windows only programs, and for when I want to mess about with Linux, and to keep my g/f happy.
Have any of you made the switch? What were your experiences? I am well versed in several flavours of OS, ie all versions of windows from 3.1 onwards, DOS 6.22 onwards, Linux (basic level) and openVMS, so I am not going to be flustered by things being slightly different in the bones of the system, the file system will be different, programs will be installed differently, etc., I'm really asking about things I might not be expecting, things you take for granted on one system, not working on another, and your overall experience.
