Hello.

    Hi there. :)

I'm Jo [if it matters to you at all], and while I may not know a whole lot about computers, I certainly do love them. If you're asking yourself "why'd she join this community?", it's because I'm looking to learn more about computers. Anything and everything about them fascinates me. I'd just like to say that by reading these entries/comments through my friend's page, I've learned a LOT already. Thanks! :)

    So, here's my story.

My computer [used, of course, since my dad doesn't know any better] is crapping out finally, and my dad and I are looking to get a new one. The option to build my own is not available, but the option to buy a brand-new one is.

    I've been given three options:

    -Dell
    -Gateway
    -HP

Now, I'd mainly use this desktop for gaming and internet. Well, mostly gaming. [Obviously some schoolwork in there too, but who does homework these days? ;)] I don't remember what ones we looked at at Best Buy [since I was in a cold-medicine-induced fog], but I can tell you the specs of the Dell we're looking at. The price range would be roughly $750-780 and under.

    Dell:
    Dimension 3000 desktop
    intel pentium 4 processor (2.80 GHz, 1MB l2 Cache, 533MHz FSB)
    windows XP home edition
    512MB shared DDR SDRAM
    80GB hard drive
(free upgrade to a flat screen monitor, online order only)
    48X CD burner
    inegrated intel extreme graphics 2
dell A425 stero speakers with subwoofer

    Total:
    $699

I *think* these are the HP and Gateway ones, but I may be mistaken.

    Gateway:
    intel pentium 4 processor 530 w/HT technology
    (flat screen monitor, printer)
    processor speed: 3 GHz
    512MB DDR RAM memory
    200 gigabyte hard drive
    double-layer multiformat DVDRW drive
    8-in-1 media reader

    Total:
    About $780 after rebates

    * for another $150, I could upgrade to 1024MB DDR RAM memory

    HP:
I'll link you, it's easier. For this one, if you could tell me what would work best for gaming out of the options given, that'd be stellar, and I'd give you a cookie. :)
    HP link

I don't remember what specs this one had at best buy.

    ------

So, basically what I'm looking for is the best gaming computer out of these three options. I could probably configure one on http://www.ibuypower.com/, but for now I'm just lucky to have these three options open. ;)
