Date: 08/11/05 (Computer Geeks) Keywords: no keywords Hi, all - newbie here, obviously. I've tried googling these questions, as well as posting them (sort of) on my own journal, but it occurred to me to look for help on the communities, so this is cross-posted in a couple of places. My motherboard fried last week during a power surge, and I have bought a new laptop. The techies at my workplace have pulled the hard drive from my old computer, and say they can transfer all the data to the new one, in one folder that I can then sort through. (This, I think I can probably figure out/ be taught how to do.) My new laptop operates on Windows XP, and I bought Office for Educators because it has Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint, the first two of which are absolutely necessary for me and the fourth of which is kinda useful for doing lectures. I love Firefox and will probably install it on this machine. I have three major queries: the first is recovering up-to-date email address books off the two email programs that were on the old computer: the one on Netscape contains my partner's work contacts; the one on Incredimail (yes, I know: please don't yell, I thought it was pretty...) has all the contacts for my PhD thesis... How likely is it that we'll be able to recover the address books? The second worry, however, is that the new computer will have Outlook on it. With Netscape, I could read my own email, and my partner could read his own, because it recognized multiple addresses. Does Outlook have this capability? And finally: my techies are already worried about being able to make the actual emails readable. Which would be a pain: I've saved some pretty important school-related stuff in folders. Again, the two email programs on the old computer were Netscape and Incredimail. Does anyone know how, should my geeks fail, to transfer the physical emails from one program (Netscape, and Incredimail) to another (Outlook)? Thanks for any advice/suggestions.
