Ok Master Chief's I have a little problem.

Lately as I go to put my computer in to stand-by mode, my computer freezes. I go to the start menu, click turn off computer and then it freezes (I'm using Windows Xp) By freeze I mean, I can still move the mouse and if I try to bring up the WINDOW TASK MANAGER it just keeps appearing and overlapping its self in an endless loop.

What could be the problem? Any suggestions on fixing the problem?

    All help is greatly appreciated
