Computer CD-RW snafu

Ok, I had to run a System Restore on my computer to get rid of a bad update on the video drivers. The Video Card would keep shutting itself off within 2 minutes of booting up. After the system restore, which I only took it back a week, up until now, has seemed to be okay. The CD-RW and DVD-RW drives have been in the system for over a year. And up til now they've worked flawlessly.

But now, I cannot burn anything to either the CD-RW drive or the DVD-RW drive. I can read and listen to music just fine. I did do some diagnosing and found that for some reason, whenever I open or close either drive, the IMAPI System Files turn themselves off. I can click START to turn the service on, but as soon as I open that tray, the service turns itself off. I can turn it back on, but as soon as I close the tray drawer, it turns itself off. I can turn it back on after its shut, but the system just wont recognize that there is a cd in either tray. There is definitely a bug in the system someplace, I just need to find it. And the Recording option is not listed for either drive when I click on properties or device manager.

I have tried to download and reinstall new IMAPI drivers from the microsoft.com website, but that had no effect on it. Ive also tried to reinstall the drivers for the CD and the DVD drives, that didn't have any effect either.

I am completely at a loss of what to do next. Can anyone suggest any ideas?
