At noon today we released a preview of the future of Web browsing with Opera, with the alpha release of Opera 10! Get an insider’s look at www.opera.com/browser/next.

Don't think of this as the launch of Opera 10, but moe a taste of Opera’s new rendering engine, Presto 2.2, which will form the future of Opera 10-based products on mobile and device platforms. It is a release for developers and the community to encourage you to test out the next generation of Opera!

Opera has fine-tuned its standards-support and the alpha achieves Acid3 Test 100/100 score. We also introduce popular features requests from the community, including:
• Auto-update, to automatically update the browser to the latest version
• Automatic in-line spell-check, so you can spell-check as you type,
• Added support for HTML formatting of e-mails in Opera Mail (M2).

New and improved features
• Opera Link: Custom search engines and typed history now joins what you can synchronise with Opera Link.
• Feed Preview: Now you can preview an RSS/Atom feed before subscribing.
• Opera Mail: Low Bandwidth Mode is a setting on mail accounts that makes Opera Mail use as little bandwidth as possible.
• Follow/Ignore threads and contacts: Follow and Ignore are new features for users that receive numerous messages. It makes it easier to dismiss unimportant messages and easier to recognise important messages.

Hi all,
I installed Opera 9.50 shortly after it came out (and then 9.51 too), and I've had nothing but problems since: many inexplicable crashes (generally when I open a new tab), and problems with RSS feeds. I gave up on it at last today and tried to reinstall 9.27. When I try to launch the setup file, though, I get an error: "Error reading setup initialization file" and it exits. Is there any way around this? I'd rather not uninstall 9.5 yet, as I want to keep it around to access already-received emails/feed items for a while yet.

Learning Web Standards just got easier. Opera has today launched its Web Standards Curriculum (WSC), a complete course to teach you standards-based web development, including HTML, CSS, design principles and background theory, and JavaScript basics. It already has support from many organizations (including Yahoo! and the Web Standards Project) and universities. The first 23 articles are currently available, with about 30 more to be published between now and late September.
