There's been plenty of debate in-office about this.

We have a SQL-head that writes long, long, looong sql statements in order to process information.
On the other hand, another developer believes that sql statements should be short and the code should process that information separately.  Both argue their way to be the more 'efficient' of the two.

Your thoughts?
