I just wanted to let people know about an open source project called Appleseed that I've been working on. It's an open source version of Friendster or Myspace, but the intention is to make it distributed, so that people on different websites can still interact with each other, and a true social network can be created that isn't tied to any one website.
It's still in early beta, but it's shaping up to be very solid, with support for photo albums, and comments already partly in place.
