I have no idea what the "official" name is of what I want to do.

I'm looking for the best (and easy) way to create a login (database?) system for a website. Basically a form that someone fills out (email addy, login name, password) to register.

I feel like such a moron, but anyone know of any great resources on-line or books that can explain how to do this?
