Emulating XLS with a web app

Date: 10/30/07 (WebDesign)    Keywords: html, java

I have an application which requires signifigant data entry by end users. Batch file processing is not possible. An example of the form is below, though there are 45 columns of data to enter in the app. Numeric values for left and right text boxes

    #1
    #2
    #3

End users want two features added to the form:

    1) Make the Enter key function as the Tab key for all input objects. To submit data they have to click with the mouse. They enter data with the numeric keypad.

    2) Allow use of up & down arrow keys to navigate vertically along the columns.  So instead of tabbing back or forward three times, they could simply arrow up/down to the box above or below.

How feasible are these requests?   With existing javascript validation I'm already working with a bloated HTML page.  I'm afraid adding in arrow key functionality will only add to it (unless there is a simple way of doing it?)

    Thanks!
