Getting rid of the depricated "name" value

Date: 12/07/07 (WebDesign)    Keywords: html, java

I know very little about javascript, and I'm trying to make some minor changes to this script so it can be valid in XHTML . See how it uses "name" in the

tag? I'd very much like to change that "name" to "id", and from everything I understand the "getElementbyId" take should work with either, but if I make that change, the javascript breaks. I can't for the life of me figure out how to adjust this little script to accept an id value instead of a name value.

    Help...?

Or, if this is a lousy way to do this in general, I'm open to a complete change. What I'm using it for is to have a product image and description change when a new selection is made in a "select" pulldown menu. This script works perfectly for my needs except for the deprecation issue.
