wide data tables

How do you guys deal with data tables that are just too bloody wide?  I mean, I'm talking about tables that are too wide for the average person's monitor.  I've got clients who have tables that are going on 1000+px wide.  After a point, saying 'make a fluid layout' doesn't work anymore because tables that wide become a hindrance to the end user.  I'm especially interested in hearing from people with corporate clients and who deal with things like press releases.  I think the best solution is the PDF route - in the corporate world, PDFs are a fact of life.  I did some digging around through releases of companies similar to the one I'm having trouble with and I don't see a lot of tables at all, whether or not wide ones.  But I'm just the web monkey and I don't have a lot of clout when it comes to protocol.
