1. Weird IE link problem

    Date: 03/23/05     Keywords: no keywords

Why won't the links work on this page in IE but they work just fine on this page, and work on both in Firefox.

The ones I am talking about, are on the right hand side of the page, from the journal graphic and links below to the bottom of the page. I've checked and rechecked my code and it's all exactly the same, no missing " or / or anything. It's starting to really bug me!

Please, tell me it's just me and that it works fine for you!
    Thanks

  2. I need an e-commerce site

Date: 03/23/05     Keywords: web, yahoo, ebay

If you are an amateur or pro graphic designer or know someone who wants to make a few extra bucks I got an easy job.. And yeah I'll be paying real money. I've never done an e-commerce site and I need one. Nothing too fancy, my brother from another mother Andrew (check out his work he's amazing) is taking care of the flash intro but I need the basic website. It's going to be for selling fashion, electronics, video games, etc. I will need to be able to constantly upload new images and change the text as I get new items in. We need to do sales via papal(for starters) and have a link to my Ebay auctions. In terms of style I want it to be futurstic/cyber/goth/splatterpunk blade runner HR Geiger you get the idea. But not tacky. Subtle. The shit I'm going to be selling I want to present as cutting edge and the site should reflect that. So if your interested hit me at mrfresh3030@hotmail.com or soulseller76@yahoo.com with a brief idea for your layout, some links to other sites you've done, and your $$$ terms. Peace & love.

    Date: 03/22/05     Keywords: web

So i have a rather basic question....
Whats the best way to save fonts for web use so that they stay crisp and sharp if i'm creating them in illustrator?

They seems to always lose a little bit of the sharpness...

  4. Dreamweaver MX site question

    Date: 03/22/05     Keywords: web

I did my previous sites in FrontPage (ducks from the expectant rock throwing) but ripped out all the FrontPage codes.

Now I'm going to redo them in Dreamweaver and have a question about sites.

In FrontPage you could have sub-webs in Dreamweaver you can't define them.

    Now my question is:

Can I define different sites in Dreamweaver as my subwebs even though I use FTP and can only log on FTP-wise to my main root website?
Or Should I just create one site for my main root website and if I make changes to the subweb/folder will it know not to upload my subweb to the root site?

(I checked the tutorials and it really doesn't say)

Date: 03/22/05     Keywords: php, linux, hosting

Is there similar features in Linux to send form mail (I'm using MailEnable in my window hosting. I am still learning PHP ) or ready to go reliable PHP Form Mail code (besides Matt's form mail) ?
I found this http://phpfmg.sourceforge.net/home.php which looks quite good but haven't tested it yet.

    Cheers

  6. Easy Update Tricks?

    Date: 03/21/05     Keywords: html, web

Alright, so my client wants certain sections to be easily updated. Just the text, not the layout or anything. For example, he wants to be able to add new "News" paragraphs, simple enough.

So if my client knows ZERO web code, what would be the easiest way to tackle this issue? Should I just include very detailed HTML comments in the files to guide him along? Or is there a way to make the HTML pull text from a text file? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Also, keep in mind the client may wish to make some words HTML links.

Hopefully some of the experts out there can help me out?

    Peace :)

  8. know any artist?

    Date: 03/21/05     Keywords: web

Hey! I'm new to this community and I feel that I am decent when it comes to web design, but could always learn more.

    My website is prince0fangels.com.

The question I present to you is not about web code, but about art. Does anyone know of anyone or where to look to find someone willing to do custom art for a website? I already have an amazing piece done for my website, but I just wanted to see what else was available.

    Thanks!

  10. Drop down menu Question

    Date: 03/21/05     Keywords: web

I have a block on this website I'm building that I want to make all the choices available on the drop down selection (suicidegirls.com style).

    This isn't difficult.
    My question is this.
I want another (2) drop down selections underneath it.

The very top is the master list.
The second one breaks the master list into genres,
and the third one only shows choices that are listed as being within that genre.

Example: Master list shows all the bands for a city.
If I choose my genre on the 2nd drop down bar to "Blues",
I want my third bar to display only the bands I have classified as "Blues bands".

    Can this be done?
If yes, can someone point the way for me to learn how to do this?

    Thank you.

However ALL the links do NOT open in a new window. I have checked and rechecked and I can't find any errors. Oh, and sometimes certain links will open in a new window and other times those same links won't open in a new window. Oh yeah, and this is all in internet explorer browser. :)

  14. so here's my present quandry....

    Date: 03/18/05     Keywords: css, html

I'm working on creating a template for a site in XHTML. Now, the template is XHTML compliant, & works beautifully in Safari on a Mac. However :

in IE & Firefox, the background colors don't show up.
in IE, my background image for the main table doesn't show up
in IE, my flash animations don't load
in firefox, my CSS placement is off.

I've used CSS in a limited capacity in the past, & this is my first crack at a fully compliant XHTML site. any hints you guys can offer would be spiffy.

  15. Printing Content in a DIV Container

    Date: 03/18/05     Keywords: no keywords

Ok, I'm bulding a page with a scrollable DIV container. This container holds the main content for the page. How would I go creating a print function that would print the information in that container...currently, when I print it out, longer text gets cut off because it's below the scroll line. Any one have ideas?

  16. I feel dumb that I can't make this CSS I'm working on do more...

    Date: 03/18/05     Keywords: css, html

I grabbed a book on CSS so I could make groupings of my pages look simalar and learn more coding stuffs... *hates college classes with a passion*

    Anyhow.

    http://www.soulrequiem.com/studio.css

    That's what I have

    http://www.soulrequiem.com/main.html

that's what it does...and yes I'm aware its not the index page...

    http://www.soulrequiem.com/index.html

I'm probably not going to put the CSS on my index page. Unless I design a specific one for JUST that page and for my subdomain splash intros. Then maybe.

I've been having problems getting the font sizes to adjust properly. I set it to 16 in one spot and the font remained the same size O.O

Well....I'm sure You'll all spot the errors.

  18. Some Questions...

Date: 03/17/05     Keywords: css, html, web

Hi everyone. By reading through some posts here the past couple weeks, and some replys to my posts, I now have a few questions for everyone:

    1. Tables: Why should I stop using them? I've always though Tables were the bread & butter of web design. Part of the reason I think this is because I was pretty much taught to think that way when I was in school for my associates degree. I admit, the school was terrible, but anyway... that's what I was taught. I've seen people on here talk about CSS doing everything tables can... or using DIV tags to do it, and so on. I admit, I know nothing about DIV tags, or what they do... and I know very little CSS... only the fun stuff like link styles and scroll bar colors. Any light shed on this question would be helpful.

    2. CSS: Used for the entire website? Just wondering what the benefits are to using CSS for your entire site, instead of HTML.

    3. IFRAMES: Why are they so bad? I use them all the time, they are easy to use, and I like 'em. In a previous post someone replied that search engines can't search into them if they are on your site... so I recognize that problem... but what else is there? I'd like to hear some more downsides and upsides. Another person recommended I use DIV tags to do IFRAMES job. I don't know how to do this. Can anyone link me to a little DIV tutorial?

Thats all for now I guess. Thanks in advance for replies!
