No more burner??

Date: 09/05/06 (Computer Help)    Keywords: software, virus

I have a Dell 5100c. It has windows XP on it.
Today I tried to burn a CD from iTunes and it tells me "disc burner or software not found." So I tried windows player and got the same thing.
How did this just leave my computer? And how can I get it back? I did a virus check and came up clean.
    Help! :(

    Thank you in advance.
