wireless internet

I'm a total n00b when it comes to networking and have never had to mess with it before.

My girlfriend just moved into a new apartment where they have wireless broadband. I sent her a brand new Gigabyte 80211.b wireless card and guided her over the phone as she installed it. (We're 6 hours apart.) She booted up, followed the installation instructions for the card and let Windows (XP SP2 with all updates) install the card. Another reboot - but even though the card appears to be installed ok, (no issues in Device Manager,) her status remains "wireless network unavailable." There are two other computers in the apartment and both are working fine. We verified that the router was up and running.

I had her disable the old network connections and leave just the new one, but it didn't help. I'm at a loss as to what to do next. I was thinking that she might need the ISP's installation disc to complete her connection but I have no idea. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!
