I'm going insane...

Background: The desktop computer is the family computer. It is hooked directly to a Qwest DSL modem, not 24/7, but most of the time. Running Windows XP. We have an almost-70GB hard drive, with 45BG still completely free.

Now, here's the problem. Well, first there are the spontaneous reboots, which are annoying, especially when I'm in the middle of a campaign. ...But when the computer gets turned off, then turned on again, about four in five times it doesn't boot up. The WindowsXP window comes up, and then it just goes to blank screen. It's stayed that way for up to half and hour before we've manually shut off the computer. Then the white text comes up with the different options of how to boot up the computer. All of them have worked at one time, and then not worked the next. I go through this three or four (or ten, last night) times, and then one time it will boot up without any blips.

This is driving me batty; does this sound like any viruses anyone knows of? Any suggestions or comments about what I can do?
