Raster to vector translation

Date: 05/02/05 (Computer Help)    Keywords: linux

I am not 100% sure if I am posting this on the right community.

Anyway, if anybody could help me convert some .jpg files to vector files (illustrator, freehand, coreldraw formats), then it would be much appreciated. I have tried to do this and also tried using programs called autotrace ( http://autotrace.sourceforge.net). But I have no artistic flair at all. I also am not sure what they are talking about when they describe the problems with my apparently vectorized image(s). Maybe someone knows more about these packages than me. I have freehand 10 , but I run Linux and I am only using it under emulation. I am quite familiar with photoshop, which is not a vector-based drawing program.

The reason I need the image vectorised is for printing onto various things like baseball caps and t-shirts.

    Many thanks

(x-posted in some art communities too)
