New Video Card?

Date: 10/08/05 (Computer Help)    Keywords: google

I have a NVIDIA GeForce 6200 Video card in my PC. 3200+ AMD Athlon processor, 512 MB SDRAM, 200GB HD.

When I got the card, I told the person at Best Buy that I was looking for an affordable card that I could play Starcraft on. The card handles that OK. But I've started having problems besides that. I found another game I wanted to play, Star Trek Elite Force 2, and was unable to play for more than a few minutes without either a total system freeze or a crash.

And just now, I had a total system crash while using the program Google Earth. Windows XP pointed the finger of blame at the NVIDIA card.

Between wanting these issues to stop and realizing I may actually be into more advanced games than I was before, should I just give in and get a new and better card? I'm pretty sure I have the budget for it but don't want to do it if it's not necessary.

And if I do, should I avoid NVIDIA? In my research on the Elite Force problem, I found one or two that basically said that NVIDIA and Elite Force 2 just don't get along well.

Thanks for all your help! Cross posted about.

    Sean
