1. Sony Vaio Monitor Help

    Date: 11/13/05     Keywords: ebay

I made a big boo-boo with purchasing a Sony Vaio PCVA-141LAP Monitor off of eBay, thinking that it would work with my brother's Sony Vaio desktop. Now, I don't know too much about computers and I'm wondering if there is some type of adapter we could purchase in order to make it fit. I don't know what other type of information you might need, but doing basic searches about the monitor I've come up empty. Any suggestions? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  2. HELP!

Date: 11/11/05     Keywords: virus, antivirus, spyware

I was downloading a free trial of Paint Shop Pro, when my computer went crazy!

It said that my computer was infected with spyware, and then it downloaded SuperSpy and it started going..

I exited out of that, and went to my Spyware program, Spy Sweeper, and it said that I had spyware and 3 Trojans..

But when I ran my AntiVirus program, it didn't pick up the Trojans..

How can I get rid of the Trojans?

Also, it changed my background. It says "SPYWARE FOUND." blah blah

I cant delete the account either. When I go to go to User Account page and click on the messed up account.. it just freezes.

    What can I do?

    Thanks.

  3. DVD's won't play

    Date: 11/10/05     Keywords: no keywords

I just got a new DVD combo drive but I can't play dvd's. I downloaded several programs, even PowerDVD which a friend uses on her ancient 32mb ram computer to watch dvd's, but mine says the cd drive needs a driver, but you don't need any special driver to use a cd drive. I'm afraid my computer's just too worthless to play a dvd even though I got a top of the line drive - it's a burner and it's the 8G dual layer kind too. WHY WON'T IT WORK?!?!

  4. doc watson

    Date: 11/08/05     Keywords: virus, spyware

running winamp, the program started lagging a lot and then shutting down. After, a sign pops up saying Dr. Watson has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. I've seen this before on my roommate's computer and pretty sure its some kind of adware/spyware or virus. Is there any way to get rid of this doc crap?

    thanks in advance.

  5. Video Trouble

    Date: 11/08/05     Keywords: no keywords

    Hi (=
About two months ago, my Windows Media Player stopped working. I tried to uninstall it, and reinstall it and it still wouldn't work. It kept telling me there was an error. I have for the most part, luckily been able to work around it. Though on occasion, I will want to watch a video online and a screen pops up saying, "Can not Create DirectShow Player" I have no idea what this means, and it's a huge incovience. Any help, would be so very much apperciated.

  7. Trojans suck.

    Date: 11/06/05     Keywords: no keywords

Alright, so my PC-Cillin lets me know I have a trojan.

Well, I can't get rid of it. There are two running in my processes, thus manual delete cannot be done. "End Process" and "End Process Tree" do nothing, and I really want to get rid of this. PC-Cillin only knows of the A, B, and C versions so I assume this is new.

    Can anyone help? :)

  8. Router with not enough ethernet plugs

    Date: 11/05/05     Keywords: no keywords

If the router does not have enough 'plugs' for the computers in my house (5 computers, 4 plugs), is there such a device that will split one of them or do I have to get a new router?

  9. Dying monitor?

    Date: 11/03/05     Keywords: no keywords

My old VGA monitor has developed this odd habit of flickering on and off. The whole screen goes black as if I've turned the monitor off but turns back on within a second or so. Sometimes it will do this repeatedly, eventually culimating in the monitor degaussing itself. My second monitor (both running off of the same vidcard) has never done this. (It's a plasma flatscreen though.) So does this mean my VGA monitor is nearing death?

i've been using this MY FLASH drive i got from newegg.com for my class projects. all of a sudden, everytime i go to either delete or write to the flash drive, a warning pops up that my USB is now write-protected. i've checked the flash a dozen times for any kind of switch, but there's nothing. i also tried to re-format it as a FAT, but of course, it's now write-protected and i can't do that. i don't mind losing the files i had on it, cause i have them backed up on my computer, but i'd really like to use this USB again. can anyone help me?

  13. making vcd

    Date: 10/31/05     Keywords: software

Hi I'm trying to make a VCD. I have a blank cd that's 700mb free space, and I have a 800mb+ file. I want to make it so that it fits on the VCD. I used Virtualdub to make the movie into a 400mb .avi file, but when I put it on the VCD, it doesn't fit--it goes over the 700mb. Does the burning software (Nero) make a .avi file into .mpeg when it's making it into a VCD?

Can I get any tips on making this movie fit into the VCD?

I was going to IM '[info]'warsawpact but I didn't know if you'd be charged ;)

(Note, I didn't say it the other way round LOL)

So, I want to share a local folder via ftp. How do I set this up? It's 4 gigs. I could easily burn it to a DVD but my sister doesn't have a DVD drive. She does, however, have broadband. So, would anyone be willing to IM me this morning to discuss?

  15. Help, please.

    Date: 10/29/05     Keywords: no keywords

I took everything off my computer and put it all back on a couple of weeks ago, because things weren't working right. Now everything is working fine except my wireless internet. I have Roadrunner. When I turn on the computer it says my wireless signals are "very good" or "excellent" and the light on my wireless pc card lights up green but when I try to open Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc. it says "can't find page". My internet works fine when plugged in, if that makes any difference. What can I do?

  16. Big Time Computer Trouble

    Date: 10/28/05     Keywords: virus

Our computer starts up fine, but once you get to the windows XP profile screen and select a profile, it freezes almost immediately. Programs will only run in Safemode with command prompts, because no desktop loads in that mode. Through the task manager, we can access programs, so we have cleaned the regisrty and run virus-cleaners that say there are infected files on the computer. However, we deleted the infected files and still the same problems. Hard dick-check says there are problems with the disk, but it can't fix them because the disk is in use. We can't figure out how to do a basic DOS run.

Can anyone surmise what's going on here? And, can anyone point us in the right direction in terms of what to do to remedy the situation? ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  17. Drive E: Out of Commission

    Date: 10/28/05     Keywords: no keywords

    Hi people.

Last week I turned off my computer before I left for work, and when I returned, it wouldn't turn on. I called DELL, and they sent someone over to fix the problem. The first problem was the power source. It died. So, the guy unplugged everything, put in the new power source, and plugged everything back in. The computer started, and he left.

Now, I was trying to listen to some music tonight, and I put a cd in the cd drive (drive e:?) and nothing happens. It doesn't pick up that there is a cd there. I tried searching, and tried the "run" programs, but not even those could locate it.

I would reload the DRIVER AND UTILITIES, but for obvious reasons, that won't work.

    Help, adivce, anything?

  18. Anyone use tiscali UK? Can you do me a favour if so?

    Date: 10/27/05     Keywords: no keywords

I'm TOTALLY unable to access Site5.com or my domain on there, using my 512k ADSL connection with Tiscali UK.

Site5 had me tracert it, and it's not site5 at fault..Tiscali say it's not them on the laughable server status and technical help line...but I still can't get there.

The only way it IS possible to access it is by setting FF/IE to use an anonmymous proxy server.

I can't even ping site5, let alone check my e-mail/ftp etc..this has been going on for 3 days.

So...PLEASE..if anyone is using Tiscali uk, can you try and access www.site5.com, and let me know if it works for you?

    Many thanks!

  19. systray problem

    Date: 10/27/05     Keywords: no keywords

Eeek! I don't know what I did, but all of a sudden the section at the bottom of the screen that has the clock and the icons of programs that are running freaked out, got a lot longer, and turned completely blank. Here is a screenshot.

My first instinct would be to restart the computer, but I can't do that because every time I do, the internet stops working and my dad fiddles and fiddles with it for hours until it works again, and even he isn't sure exactly what makes it work or not work again.

Anyway, if somebody knows or might know how to fix this without restarting, please help me! Thanks.
