A little Reformatting help, please?

I want to reformat my 120 GB slave HD with a Windows XP CD but the drive had been previously formatted with 20 GB partitioned.

I removed the partitions, or so I thought, but my attempts to reformat the HD would only offer to format the HD up to the first 90+ GB while leaving the other 20+ GB out of the reformat.

Can anyone give me a hand doing this?

Also, I think the computer stopped formatting after a while (got up to 57%, I think). Am I doing something wrong?
