Hi guys, new person to the community.

I’m posting because I need some advice. I have a pretty good grasp of HTML and a book to help me with what I don’t know of CSS, Javascript, etc.

Here’s what I need help in:

This is what I want the main page to look like (it’s defiantly not exact, simply because I threw this together at work with Paint >.<) but I’ve inserted notes on what I’m trying to do.

What would accomplish what I’m trying to achieve? HTML? CSS? Flash? PHP? Frames? (Evil!)

Sorry, but I have a few more questions. I've been tearing apart my layout the last few days, you can look at it at angerisagift09 if you get confused with what I'm talking about. It looks horrible now. If you need to know, I am using Generator style. I want the image on the top, with everything else below it. It's there now, but it's barely visible because the actual writing is taking it up. How do I make the margin on the top larger?
This is the part I need the most help with, I want the background color to be Royal Blue, but there are like 3 backgrounds/thick borders before the actual entries. I don't know how to change the color of these. I want the little border background to be black, then the part that's actually behind the text to be white.
I try to change the font and it doesn't work. Any tips?
When I change my font like <*font color = "color"*> why doesn't it show up on my main journal page, and only on the actual entry like when I comment? Same with the size.
And my last thing, how do I place the comments on the bottom left instead of the top right?

Okay, so this isn't for my journal, but for a website I'm doing. If this is inappropriate, please let me know and I will delete my entry. I just can't seem to find anyone else to help!

I was hired to create a website for my university's record label. I have an Apple Powerbook, and use Safari. I made a really basic layout, it looked fine in Safari, and then I went to check it in Internet Explorer... and it's completely wrong.

The layout is made using tables, and where I think I went wrong is in the td width="*" tag (which is supposed to make the size of the cell whatever is left in the window. for instance, if the window is 100 pixels wide, and you have two items at 10 pixels each, it becomes 80)... I've been using this for years, in IE, but apparently it's causing problems now. At the top of the page are three cells, running horizontally- the logo with a fixed width, part of the line, and the end with a fixed width. I think the problem is with the middle cell. I set the width to adjust based on how wide the viewer's screen is: basically, no matter what the size, both ends will look the same. The only difference is how wide the middle cell is, which makes the background repeat... Instead, it's just stretching the first cell and repeating its background. In a nutshell, I need it to be one solid line, even as you resize the window.

I hope this makes sense, it's 4:18 in the morning and I'm frustrated. If anyone can give me any advice, I would really, really appreciate it!!!

Hi. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with creating a table to organize my community's info page so that the edges of my text line up with the edges of my "headers." If you look at the info page of my community squittified, I think you'll see what I mean. I know I've got to put all of my userinfo including my main header at the top into a table with each item in a different table row/column/cell, but I'm not really sure how to do that. Any help or suggestions would be great! Thanks!


Oh yeah. Or if anyone can suggest a good table html website, that'd be awesome too.

i have the code to make the navigation bar thin. i have seen it and it looks mighty fine if the journal was in the middle and the text ares was large. mine however, is not ceneterd (it's all the way to the left) and the text area is smaller. does anyone know if it is still possible to make the navigation bar thin. i have tried and i was unsuccesful. all i did was change the words and that isn't what i want. oh, and my text area is transparent. does that alter anything?
