Date: 11/04/06 (IT Professionals) Keywords: no keywords I'm working on a computer that is having a problem with overheating. The system would all of a sudden shut off and when you would turn it back on it would give me 4 little beeps with an overheating error message. I noticed that the CPU was very hot (58C) and that the fan was running at 1100 RPMs. sometimes at 900 RPMs. I changed the fan and heatsink, made sure it had lots of thermal grease, all the connections are secure, blew out any dust that was in the case that might be blocking anything, etc. I even drilled holes and installed a new case fan for more ventilation. The BIOS for this computer doesnt seem to have an area to see the CPU temperture like most BIOS show. So I used utilities like Motherboard Monitor, Sandra and Speedfan. Checked it with Sandra and the RPMs is still low. Same as before. And the computer is still running warm. It just drop a few degrees but not much. Speedfan is suppose to change the CPU fan speed but Speedfan doesnt seem to change it permanately. Could something be wrong with the power supply to cause the cpu fan to run slowly? b/c I did hook up the new cpu fan to one of my spare computers on the 3 pin connector on the motherboard and the fan speed was really fast on that particular computer. So I know it isnt the fan. Source: http://community.livejournal.com/itprofessionals/46272.html
