A simple tip for newbies - how to get Java stack trace, the invaluable tool to debug java programs, in Linux:
- Type the Ctrl key followed by \, in short Ctrl \.
I just used it to debug a persistent problem where a server process which automatically fetches data from a third-party site was inexplicably hanging.

Ubuntu’s Shuttleworth: mobile Linux stalled by proprietary lock on industry, lack of neutral Linux platform

Mouse problems
Date: 02/27/08
(Computer Geeks) Keywords: software, linux, microsoft
I normally wouldn't post something like this, but after a year of head scratching, my works IT desktop support department failing to find a solution and hours googling, I admit defeat.
When using a work computer, I am required to remote desktop into a server (windows server 2003) to log into the helpdesk software. Occasionally when using this, and switching back to the local PC (XP SP2), my mouse will lose the ability to click and drag objects in outlook and in windows itself (desktop items etc, not windows) The click and drag does work on desktop items on the remote computer. I am still able to click buttons and right click items.
I have tried:
reinstalling mouse drivers and a new mouse
Recently I got a new work computer (uipdated from SP1 to SP2). I didn't copy any settings over from the old one. New hardware, new profile. It kept happening.
I then deleted my profile from the remote PC. It keeps happening. I have brought in my own mouse from home and installed seperate drivers for it (logitech), it still happens, I have updated remote desktop to the latest version from microsoft.com. The only solution is to power off the PC, logging out and back in doesn't fix it. I have recently found however, that logging out of remote desktop, then waiting 5 clears it up, making it more annoying than critical. But this doesn't make me happy, as it's an itch that I can't leave alone till I fix it (that'd be the geek in me!). Every variable has been changed. It still happens. But not to anyone else.
This doesn't appear anywhere in microsofts help files. It doesn't happen to the other 3 people who I share this PC with. I am starting to think it knows I defected from windows to linux and am now a mac user. Anyone? Anything?
