Of interest to Windows' Users?
Date: 04/17/07
Keywords: linux, microsoft
Microsoft released a new Media Player plugin for Firefox. The WMP version 11 plugin is for Windows XP and Vista (last download on the linked page) only, but if you must view WMV video; at least the plug-in is less likely to crash Firefox. And yes, I'm told the plug-in works in the suite as well, but since I run Linux; I cannot verify this assertion.
Qvacks.

The link below (to myspace) crashes my firefox browser:
http://www.myspace.com/danhenk
Is it just my system or does this happen to anyone else?
I am running Vista with firefox 2.0.0.3 and numerous extensions. However, it crashes firefox whenever I run in Firefox Safe Mode as well, so it can't be an extension.
This is the error I'm getting:
Runtime Error R6034

Firefox 2.0.0.2 crashs on phpBB2-based forums
Date: 03/01/07
Keywords: php, html, web
Hi!
It happens two times today that my Firefox 2.0.0.2 crashed. The first time in my own forum when I clicked on "Who is online?". And second time just happened a few minutes ago when I was clicking on the category title in a friends forum. Both forums are the same version (phpBB2 Plus 1.53) and it was not the first time it happened there. And both forums are the only ones where Firefox crashes. Maybe I should mention that problem to the developers (of phpBB2) as well, but I doubt they can do anything.
Any ideas what could cause this?
If useful, these are the installed extensions:
Adblock 0.5.3.043
deviantMessage 0.9.1
DOM Inspector 1.8.1.2
Firebug 1.01
Forecastfox 0.9.5.2
Gmail Notifier 0.5.6.5
Html Validator [de] 0.7.9.5
IE Tab 1.3.1.20070126
NoScript 1.1.4.6
Plain Text Links [de] 0.3
Tab Effect 1.1 (disabled)
Talkback 2.0.0.2
WebDeveloper 1.1.3

I'm sure I'm not the first to have this problem, but I'm running the latest edition of Firefox (2.0.0.2) on Windows 2000 and I can't see certain Photobucket albums and/or images posted from said albums (the ones whose url begins "http://smg.photobucket...etc").
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Is there an add on that I can use or something similar? Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. :)

Change thunderbird hotkeys?
Date: 02/21/07
Keywords: rss
I am using Thunderbird to read numerous email accounts, some of which get mail that I really don't need to read, but don't want to delete either. Also, I use the RSS reader functions as well.... So I end up doing a LOT of "mark folder read" operations. This is actually rather slow. There's no single-key way to do it! I can either right-click, run down to "Mark Folder Read", or hit "ctrl-shift-c"....
What I'd like is some way to map this to a SINGLE hotkey - so I can just do the op with a single keyboard stroke. Anybody know how this might be achieved?

Thunderbird Add-On / Extension for Formatting Toolbar, shorcuts
Date: 02/19/07
Keywords: no keywords
At work I need to use strikethrough (looks like this) formatting in my emails. It's accessible under "Format > Text Style > Strikethrough" but there is no Ctrl-Key shortcut, nor is there an option for adding a button to the Formatting Toolbar.
I've looked at Mozilla's Add-On for Editing and Formatting, but am unable to find anything that fits the bill. Any advice?

Does anyone familiar with this situation? what should I do?

Does anyone know how to get Okopipi to work in Thunderbird? I have it installed, but it does not create any buttons or anything, also when I try to forward spam to Knujon, I get an error message saying that I can not forward email or there was an error (something of the sort). Anyone else have these problems?

Adblock bug, or Apple tomfoolry? (using SeaMonkey)
Date: 02/03/07
Keywords: browser
Why is http://images.apple.com/dotmac/images/index_btn_joinnow.gif blocked by the adblock filter that blocks www.mac.com/, but http://images.apple.com/dotmac/images/index_title_home2.gif isn't?!?
I'm not seeing www.mac.com in the string images.apple.com/dotmac/images/btn_joinnow.gif anywhere ...
The filter "www.mac.com/" does even worse:
http://images.apple.com/t/2007/us/en/i/3.gif loads
http://images.apple.com/t/2007/us/en/i/4.gif is adblocked
http://images.apple.com/t/2007/us/en/i/5.gif all the way to http://images.apple.com/t/2007/us/en/i/8.gif also load. So does 1 and 2.
What about that "4" triggers "www.mac.com/*" exactly?
Adblock v.5 d3 nightly 42 running under SeaMonkey 1.0.5 and Windows XPSP2 (has IE7 as non-default browser) - not the most recent of everything, but no reason to believe updating would fix this either at the moment.

Firefox & Thunderbird not able to be default on Vista??
Date: 02/01/07
Keywords: no keywords
Just installed Vista... every time I run thunderbird, it prompts me to make it default. Yet, it doesn't become default. Firefox claims to be default, yet clicking links in applications - even in thunderbird - causes them to be loaded in IE7...
Vista provides a utility for setting default applications - yet mysteriously, it won't let me select Firefox or Thunderbird - they have obviously changed how this works drastically from XP, and for some reason it isn't compatible with mozilla products as far as I can tell...
So.... against this latest assault from the -not-a-monopoly-, how am I supposed to set defaults?

Mozilla and Quicktime Problems
Date: 01/23/07
Keywords: browser, web
A few months ago my quicktime player seems to have become power hungry and took over all uses of sound clips, video files, and flash sites/games in my mozilla web browser. I've tried playing with the settings and nothing has changed, the only thing that has worked is deleting quicktime, but when I did that my iTunes wouldn't open anymore, and I'd rather have iTunes then vidoes and such. I downloaded Internet Explorer the other day and it plays videos without quicktime and it works just fine, except that Internet Explorer keeps freezing up my computer and making funny noises.
Anyone know how I can get quicktime to leave my firefox alone? :(

Login cursor moves
Date: 01/22/07
Keywords: no keywords
I'm using Firefox on Windows XP with Dialup (I hate to admit it, but it's AOL.) When I'm trying to log into a site (gmail, LJ, etc) before the login screen has finished loading (I get impatient due to the dialup), quite often the cursor will jump from the password line back to the end of the userID line. I'm fairly quick on a keyboard, so I just TAB between the lines, then halfway through the password, the cursor is at the end of the username. Any ideas? Is this Firefox, XP, AOL, or some combination of the three?
Thanks, all.

Firefox live bookmarks

I've searched for an answer to this without any luck.
I've added a number of blogs to my RSS feed. However when I use the firefox/delicious bookmark panel on the left side of my browser, it shows blog entries alphabetically. What I want is to see the latest entries, and not have to scroll through everything trying to find the latest update.

mozbackup
Date: 01/19/07

Recently at work I was given a fast new PC to use. Transferring my mail and browser preferences have always made it a pain to get on a new machine. This time, however, I found MozBackup, a piece of freeware for backing up and restoring Mozilla profiles.
It schlurped up my Thunderbird Mail profile, mail archive, address book, accounts - everything except my Extensions - and I was able to restore that archive onto my new machine. The same for my Firefox browser experience.
Hoo hah, that was easy. Anybody who has to transfer to a new Windows box, I can't recommend this enough!

Shortkey question
Date: 01/02/07
Keywords: web
Hey everyone!
I use both Firefox (2.0.0.1) and SlimBrower. SB has this option where you can configure shortkeys so that the .net/.org/.livejournal.com/any other website extension are automatically added by pressing [ctrl]+[enter] or another combination of the [ctrl] [alt] [shift] and [enter] keys.
Now, I was wondering if it was possible to do the same thing in Firefox? Perhaps with an add-on?
Thanks in advance.

Firefox has disabled data execution despite it being enabled in windows?
Date: 12/22/06
Keywords: browser, web
I was playing around with Process Explorer, and apparently it allows you to view the Data Execution Prevention status of running processes. Pretty useless, I thought, since I have Data Execution Prevention turned on for all processes. I have no exclusions specified, and have selected "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select"...
However, despite this, Firefox shows up with DEP status "Off"... It is the only process on my system that does this. I have an Opteron 170 processor (identical to an Athlon64 X2) which supports hardware DEP mode. If an application can simply opt out of data execution prevention despite its being hardware supported and supposedly forced by the OS, it really weakens the protection Especially when the application is a web browser, which is probably the most vulnerable application on the entire system to buffer overflow attacks (which is what DEP is designed to prevent).
I checked out of curiousity, and ThunderBird also comes up with DEP disabled. I have not found any other applications that disable this protection feature.
So, I'm kinda miffed that the supposed "secure" browser has opted out of Data Execution Prevention. Any particular reason/explanation for this?
I have included a screenshot that will show that it is indeed disabled, and I do indeed have DEP enabled on my system.
