Does anyone here run Opera 8 beta 3?
If so, do you know of a way to turn off the new "friendly" error messages?

Cookies are not so sweet now :/
Date: 03/29/05
Keywords: browser, web
Whud up!
I have a problem. All of the sudden my Opera browser lost an adequate cookies control! Strange, I have all the settings turned ON for it to work, but every new session or even new opened tab releases any variables set for the website and I forced to enter all the login info again (i.e. livejournal.com or any other website that requires login procedure), its very irritating. Maybe anyone of you had the same problem?
Excuse me for my bad english.
UPD: the cause was incremented year by one. I've lived in 2006. Ma bro gonna die 4 that :))

Opera 8 Beta 2
Date: 02/25/05
Keywords: google
Opera has released the second beta of version 8 for testing. Seems pretty stable so far. They've added a way in "Preferences>Fonts" to change the font style and size in the email client. Google Maps is apparently working with Opera now also.

gmail woes in M2

"TLS not supported by server"
is the error I'm getting when I try to send mail from my gmail account.
I configured everything the way it said to at gmail's help center. It's checking mail just fine.
What authentication am I supposed to be using?
Edit: Changing the port # to the second option gmail offers for stmp seems to have solved the problem.

Problem with anchor links on LJ
Date: 02/10/05
Keywords: browser, html
Does anyone else have a problem with LJ comment pages and Opera jumping to the bottom of the page every time you switch a page? This is in cases where there is more than one page of comments on a post, and the page numbers and links are in two places - at the top, right below the entry, and at the very bottom.
When I click on, say the link to page 2 of comments, the link points to page 2, anchor link named "comments". It switches the page all fine and good, but invariably scrolls all the way down so I have to manually scroll to the first comment on the page. This gets very annoying especially when reading posts with several pages of comments on them.
I took a look at the source of LJ comment pages and found that they have actually TWO anchor links named "comments" - one at the top with the comment page links, second at the bottom links. I suspect this is the problem. Opera picks the latter link every time, other browsers (IE, Firefox) pick the first one and put my at the start of the comments. Behavior quirk or bug? Would this be the "fault" of Opera or LJ? (I don't think having two links named the same is exactly good HTML at least.) Is there a way to fix it so I could stop scrolling all the way up every time?
Using Opera7.54u1 build 3918 WinXP, but the behavior has been the same all the way through version 7, can't remember about 6.

Google is beginning to test out its own mapping service. (http://maps.google.com/) In what's come to be not-a-surprise, Opera is not supported. Not only that, but they don't even say they're working on supporting it. (But they are working on supporting Safari.)

Sumptin' Went Wonky...
Date: 02/06/05

Just spent a couple hours uninstalling, reinstalling, and manually reconfiguring Opera, after downloading the beta of Trillian Pro 3.1. Not sure what went wrong where, just know that both versions of Opera on the computer, the latest stable release and beta 8, started crashing on startup right after installing the Trillian beta, but the Trillian beta didn't crash, if that makes any sense.
I originally tried a basic uninstall and reinstall of both versions, and reloaded the configuration files, but they still crashed. So, had to uninstall, delete both Opera directories, then reinstall, and fiddle with them to get them back to the configuration I had them. All the work paid off though. No more crashes, and Trillian is still running smooth. My only guess is a file got corrupted somewhere.

VERY Incorrect Statement!
Date: 01/28/05
Keywords: browser, html, web
Earlier, I was going through "TotalFark" reading various posted links and ran across an article on "The Observer Online" site entitled, "Stop using Internet Explorer immediately".
In the article, on page two, third paragraph down, is an outright incorrect statement:
"Find a Web browser that suits your needs, it doesn't matter which browser you use, so long as it is not Internet Explorer (be careful though, some browsers, like Opera, use the Internet Explorer engine, and so should not be considered safe)."
Needless to say, I fired off an email to correct them. Haven't heard back yet though. I think the articles author, Lance Gallop, must have Opera confused with the IE shells like Avant or Maxthon.

Stats

Keywords: browser, web
I was looking at the web server stats on my work machine I noticed that I've had 13 versions of Opera.
I've just downloaded 7.54u1, so the leader board isn't about to change. It was version 7.23 that I used the most, with 7.54 in second place.
For comparison, in the same period I've had hits from 3 versions of IE, 15 versions of Mozilla-based browsers, and four others.

E.mail in opera
Date: 01/06/05
Keywords: html
Hi All,
I was just wondering if anyone knows of a way (if it's even possible) to format my e.mails as rtf or html in Opera? I've looked in every menu, and I can't find a way to format e.mails as anything other than plain text.
Anyone have any clues?
Thanks in advance!

Registrations codes

adcott brought up a good point in the last post. When Opera 8 final is released, does that mean our 7.xx registration codes won't work anymore? (Not that another $20 student code would break me. Just wondering.)

Essentially, 7.6 preview 5 is now called Opera 8... quite rightly so IMO, little remains of the version 7 that came out in '02.
(p.s. old registration codes for 7.x still work.)
