Renewing domain names

Please forgive my potentially very stupid question.

My domain name, which I registered with Geocities when I upgraded my account, will be expiring soon, and I can't figure out how to renew it. Does Geocities do it automatically, or is there a special place I need to go to? I've been getting letters in the mail from companies that want me to "switch to them" and renew my domain "before it's too late," but I'd really like to avoid something like that (or are one of these companies actually what Geocities used?). Can anyone help?
