Background Images In HTML Email

Date: 02/25/09 (WebDesign)    Keywords: css, html, spam

Hey, all... I know that HTML emails are kind of spammy, but you do what the boss wants, right?

I've made sure all my images are full direct paths to files up on a server, all of my CSS is done in-line, and when I test the email by sending it to my co-workers everything looks dandy, but when I send a test out to Gmail or Hotmail all of my background images are stripped out. Is there something wrong with my code?

The code for my main div with the background image is:

    http://www.papugai.com/graphics/design/papugai_pagebacktile.gif); padding: 30px 0; width: 800px; text-align: center; border: 0; margin: 0;">

    Any help is greatly appreciated.
