Image maps, BUT NOT!

I'm trying to figure out how to do an image map without the... use of an image.

The thing is, the image I'd like to use is my background so I can't just throw a map on top and say 'tally ho.' Not that I would anyway, but you get the point.

How do I get the same effect of an image map without actually sticking it on an image? That is, how do I make a small field of nothingness that serves as a link?

The image I'm using for my background (and, indeed, my entire layout) is underneath this cut.

See how there's link options at the side? That's what I'm trying to get to... well, link.

Otherwise, is it an okay layout for a personal site? Clientele and the like won't be looking for services and the like, so I don't have to worry about that sort of thing.

Thanks a lot in advance. And all.

    Rock on. ♥
