    Date: 06/12/07     Keywords: html

I'm having some problems with this page. I feel that the main problem is the navigation menu. The page looks great in FireFox but as soon as I tried IE the entire thing fell apart. I cannot seem to find the problem and it is driving me insane! Any help would be appreciated.

  5. Image Marquees

Date: 06/07/07     Keywords: css, html, java, web

    Hi all,

I'm still working without Flash, though I'd like to learn it at some point. I am trying to incorporate all my animation with GIFs and HTML/CSS.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to do a marquee type effect on an image that is XHTML compliant. I understand that marquee tags are deprecated (though they seem to still be pretty well supported) and I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a CSS equivalent?

Basically, what I actually want to do is have one long image rolling slowly by like a film strip across the bottom of the page (horizontally). What's the easiest way to accomplish this? I'm not afraid of JavaScript, but I'm also not brilliant with it yet, so spell things out for me. :)

  6. Red or blue?

    Date: 06/06/07     Keywords: web

I've come to the point where my freelance business has gone beyond just doing websites for people, and because of that, I need to rebrand myself beyond the name of Heinsite to one that's more indicative of an overall creative entity. So I've decided on this concept, BUT I need your help - red or blue, people. Only you (and everyone else that I'm going to bother with this question) can help me decide!

For my business cards, I'm going to use "tidbit cards" - they'll be double-sided 2.5" by 2.5" on stiff thick cardstock. The logo on the front will be raised, and the color on the back most likely flat - I might put a varnish on my name & the site url, but other than that, the rest will be matte.

    Thanks guys!

  7. dreamhost: general warning

    Date: 06/06/07     Keywords: database

yesterday nightish a 3rd party broke into dreamhost's database and got the pw information for 3,500 accounts (including my work account, which is why i was alerted via email by dreamhost). all the 3rd party apparently did was run a script that injected some fluff code to everyone's index files to give their own site better search engine rankings, but they're not quite sure.

3rd party also apparently tried to break into their customer information database but was prevented.

i'd just check your dreamhost sites to make sure nothing is up. better safe than sorry.

  8. long complicated question

    Date: 06/06/07     Keywords: technology, web

I'm designing a website for massage therapist. Is there a way to either program (or a free program) that allows customers to:
    1) See a calendar of availabilities
    2) Pick an available date and time
    3) Then the calendar would be updated with the newly scheduled appointments

Is is also possible to get them, should she accept credit cards, pay for the appointment before it is booked?

Any suggestions for tutorials, or inexpensive pre-written programs would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't designed pages in a long time so I'm rusty with the technology if I were just pointed in the right directions.

    The site is www.redthreadenergetics.com

    Thanks for your consideration.

  11. CSS question

    Date: 05/30/07     Keywords: google

    background-attachment:scroll;

Doesn't work in Firefox. The background remains firmly rooted in place. IE7 and Opera support it just fine. Go ahead and try it.

I Googled this, but the solution doesn't seem to work - I'm banking that it's because it's one in the morning. Anyone know how I can get around this?

  13. Tips on creating a website?

    Date: 05/26/07     Keywords: web, microsoft

I'm new to this community, and would love to get some tips from you all!

I'm a cosplayer (someone who creates and models costumes as a hobby)
Here is my Deviant Art page: http://ashuracastle.deviantart.com/

I want my own website with my own domain name. Unfortuanately, I'm almost completely computer illeterate!

I used to have my own website. It was a very simple design I created in Microsoft Frontpage. My University hosted it (because it provides free websites for its students). However, they took it down once I graduated.

Do you have any advice on how to choose a new place to host my site? I really dont know how much space I will need. Im guessing alot since It will be filled with photos.

    Thanks for any help!

  14. Picture Scroll

    Date: 05/26/07     Keywords: web

Hey, does anybody know where I can find a good script that makes images go back and forth. I want arrows on both sides, and then the thumbnails go back and forth. This is for my photography portfolio website.

So basically the bottom of the page will have thumbnails that scroll left and right, and then those images change the top half of the page. Any help would be appreciated! I'm not very good at this.

  15. Simple solution, I'm sure (I hope)

    Date: 05/25/07     Keywords: browser, html

    Hi.

I'm writing very simple html code (the basics) and the browsers on my mac are not interpreting it. It just shows the code as I've written it in the browser. Browsers: Firefox, Safari Using: textedit

But, when I use the exact same code on my PC, the browsers interpret it just fine. Browsers: Firefox, IE Using: Textpad

  16. CSS Menu Issue

    Date: 05/24/07     Keywords: css, seo

I'm trying to debug this CSS menu in IE 7 (it seems fine in Firefox and IE 6). The problem is that when you move your mouse down the list that flies out on mouseover, the list of items disappears when you move down past the main list item. Has anyone had any experience with this, or, even better, have a solution?

    Thanks in advance.

  17. how to fire a client

    Date: 05/24/07     Keywords: no keywords

So, how do you fire a client? I have a client who always  pays on time, pays for what I quote for and always has lots of work for me. But I want to fire this client. This client is high maintence & micro manages a design until it looks like it came out of a word document and I'm just tired of it. It's not worth the effort. What do I tell this client? It's true I am getting busier but that's not the main reason why I want to get rid of this client. Do I lie? I'd prefer to be somewhat honest but I also don't want to leave on a bad note. Suggestions? Experiences?

  18. How Do You Embed Printer Marks In A PDF?

    Date: 05/18/07     Keywords: no keywords

Does anyone know how to embed printer marks in a pdf as such:

I'm working in Illustrator and it's my first time creating an ad for print, and for some reason they want the printer marks embedded in the file before I submit it. I understand how to add the marks to a print out (go to the print dialogue box,--->Marks& Bleeds--> select all printer marks) but I need to have those marks included in the pdf file. I'm sure I sound like an idiot to those who work in print (=

Any help would be great! Also, I'm a little confused about their prepping for print instructions as they only give instructions for using In Design:http://www.qg.com/productsservices/imaging/pdf/IDCS2_AdobePDF.pdf
Anyone have any idea how this would apply to Illustrator or if it can even be done? Would you recommend just opening the pdf in In Design and going through their complicated process? Thanks a million in advance!

  19. scrolling content- browser problem

Date: 05/17/07     Keywords: browser, html, web

this is the web page i am working on: http://robertmeyersdesign.com/awards.html

the section on the right is supposed to be a scrolling list. it works in Safari and looks great, but it's not working in firefox (and i haven't tested explorer yet). the list is pushed down and over to the right too far and doesn't scroll at all.

sidenote: the whole website was set up by an ex-intern who left on bad terms. i am just adding content and getting the site live, etc.

question: is this an easy fix? how can i make it work in other browsers?

this is what it looks like in Safari and is what it's supposed to look like:

this is what it looks like in firefox (and probably internet explorer)

  20. RSS feed nuisance

Date: 05/17/07     Keywords: rss, html, web

ok. im getting more and more into this web-design thing and its just confusing me now.i'm not advanced but im not an idiot and until now i've usually been able to figure stuff out.
this RSS feed set up is really messing with me. i have a website (www.avivalaloca.com) and i have a blog on that site (http://avivalaloca.com/id5.html)
i want to use www.rssfwd.com so people dont have to look at my blog every day to see if i've posted, but i cant get it to work. if anyone knows of something that is better than rssfwd.com that'll do the same thing, then please let me know.

i believe what i need to do is get the orange "RSS" box to show up where i type in http://avivalaloca.com/id5.html (at the end of the website, i use safari).
    how do i do that?
i've read websites and other tutorials and its a bit beyond me. if someone is willing to help me through the process and make sure it works and fix this "problem" for me i'd even be willing to pay a bit. i really need this set up before tuesday (may 22).

thank you and please feel free to email me (avivalaloca @ mac. com) with any ideas or just post here.

    much appreciated!
