I am in need of IMMEDIATELY of TALENTED artists and designers for my company as freelance/consultants. Your work must be artistic, original and out of the box. Flash experience HIGHLY wanted but not necessary.
Email me directly with a link to your portfolio, your hourly rate and if you work on small to large projects. What is your turn around time and are you able to converse through an IM program and take direction both artistically and illustratively. Also the need to work on lower budget sites for FLAT rates is wonderful but not an absolute.
about me...My husband and I own PIXELED.net we have been in business for 10 years and have recently doubled our business. We have the same 4 clients we started out with 10 years ago and are very proud of that.
YOU will be required to sign an NDA (non disclosure agreement) and many of the items you creat cannot be used in your PERSONAL/PROFESSIONAL online resume without prior written approval as our clients own the end product.
If you think you can handle me, the business and be on time and highly creative/artistic email me with what was requested above at dmm@pixeled.net...
I have projects to deliver, ASAP!

IE for Mac
Date: 09/29/06
Keywords: web
Greets all. Well, I have my new Mac (yessssss), and I've been jumping into the web design already. Upon researching IE for Mac I see it's no longer in development. So my question being, how do you guys check your web compatibility? Safari? Many thanks all.
::Edit::
Sorry for being unclear folks, what I meant was when coding your pages how do you check if the page is correcting rendering in IE? For example, box, mis-aligned type, etc. Apologies for the miscommunication.

Weird pop-up thing in IE 6.0
Date: 09/28/06
Keywords: no keywords
There's this really odd glitch in a site I put together that shows up in IE 6.0 (maybe other versions too?).
When you rest your mouse on a blank portion of the main container div (for example a white area where there are no text or images) this little control panel icon (with Save, Print, etc buttons) pops up in front of the page.
Does anyone have any idea what it causing this? It's so bizarre. The site is located here.

I was wondering if anyone here could recommend a good shopping cart script and registry script. Or would it be wiser to just code from scratch? If, so any book recommendations? Thanks!

Flash actionscripting question
Date: 09/26/06
Keywords: no keywords
I'm trying to make a flash movie that consists of a grid of thirty squares (called boxes in my movie). Each box is a movie clip. In each box movieclip is 9 different image movie clips. Each image movie clip is animated so that it will fade in for 20 frames and fade out for 20 frames. A stop(); is coded for frame 1 and frame 20 of each image movie clip.
The code below is in my main movie. I want the boxes to randomly fade in with a random image, stay for a random amount of time, and then fade out. So that the end result is a grid of images that randomly fade in and out continuously. As of right now, it does not work. The movie is just blank.
Is my context bad? Am I going about it in the wrong way? Thanks everyone.
**Btw, randRange creates a random number between (and including) the two numbers you drop into it. I've used it before and know it works.
_root.onEnterFrame = function()
{
trace("begin");
for (var i = 0; i < 30; i++)
{
trace("box");
var nm = "box" + i; //go through the thirty boxes
var nm = "image" + (randRange(0,8)); //Pick one of the 9 images in the box
trace("image");
_root[nm]._root[nm2].onEnterFrame = function()
{
if (this._currentframe == 1)
{
if ( (randRange(0,99) < 50) ) //Play 50% of the time
{
this.play();
} //CLOSE if
} //CLOSE if
else if (this._currentframe == 20)
{
if ( (randRange(0,99) < 50) ) //Finish movie clip 50% of the time
{
this.play();
} //CLOSE if
} //CLOSE else if
} //CLOSE _root[nm].onEnterFrame = function
} //CLOSE for
} //CLOSE _root.onEnterFrame = function

Form Help

Keywords: css, html, java, web, hosting, apache
Hi... i'm trying to figure out how to make a simple server side web application. I was wondering if someone know a good site that can help me figure out what i need to do or learn to do.
Basically i thought of something clever i wanted to incorporate into a myspace friends/add function. Basically redirect them to another page instead of the norm "click to add" function. Then make them check off a couple items, then IF all the check boxes were "true" then after hitting submit, it performed the normal add function.
If you're going to say some troll statement about how you don't like myspace... please don't bother. I'm not asking for critique on what i'm doing, i just want to learn how to something.
I've read the oriely HTML/CSS book, have a good understanding of webhosting and some apache but i've never done any web programs/applications.
If there is a good book out there that can help with these on a begineer level let me know, i really haven't found anything. The Java books are a little well... dry to read without actucally being around ac omputer to do the examples.
Something like this: (adding a text field -> output to a text file (csv) would be cool.) Sites with free basic customizable code would be good too. I saw the links in the user info on the community but got a little overwhemled on what i needed.
input 1(check box)
input 2(check box)
input 3(check box)
Submit
app decides whether all are true (and's all inputs).
If false gives some error page
if true, links just the add link for my page (just redirects to some page is easy enough)

I posted in here a week or so ago bitching about using blogger and a template and blah blah blah. Well, I decided to stick with blogger and I played around with the code for the template until I was pretty happy with it. I only have two sections of the site up, the main page and the podcast page and before I went forward with putting anything else up I wanted to post it in here and see what you guys thought (good or bad). So if you have any suggestions of whatever, let me know!

How to conditionally disable a javascript?
Date: 09/15/06
Keywords: css, java
So I'm working on a printer-friendly version of a bunch of pages, my ultimate goal being to just be able to do a style sheet switch on the same page and not create a duplicate "printer friendly" page.
It's going well, except for one thing:
I have the regular page using javascript to handle a tabbed function that switches content to show different information (similar to the "Features/Description/etc" tabs on this Target page.
For the printer friendly version, I need to disable this script so all the information writes on the page at one time. I have the style set up so it looks good once the script is disabled, but I can't figure out how to disable it without creating a separate page.
The script is linked in the head to a separate .js file and is activated by a line in the page's BODY:
initializetabcontent("maintab")
I tried wrapping it in a div and setting the css to "display: none;" in the print style sheet but (surprise, surprise) that only affects the display and doesn't stop the script from functioning.
Is there some sort of javascript language I could add that would be the equivilant of:
"If using print.css, disable this script"?
I only know my way around javascript enough to do some semi-basic customizing of prewritten scripts. I don't know the language... I can just pick out parts I need.
Can anyone figure out any good workarounds? (Other than having a separate printer-friendly page?)

CSS help, please!
Date: 09/14/06
Keywords: php, css, html, web
Hi all. It's been a while since I last posted. I'm trying something new out and am having a bit of trouble getting it to work in IE. I know it WILL work because the inspiration came from another website. If you look at test.aacapartsandsupplies.com, the menu with the hover images is what I want to use. I am using an unordered list with the span tag, where each list item has a different image.
Image:
CSS:
#header ul {padding: 70px 0px 0 0;
margin: 0;
float: right;
width: 600px;
height: 36px;
overflow: hidden;}
#header ul li, #header ul li a {display: block;
float: left;
height: 36px;
background-position: left top;
overflow: hidden;}
#header ul li a:hover {background-position: left bottom;}
#header ul li a span {display: block;
height: 1px;
width: 1px;
overflow: hidden;}
#home a {background-image: url('images/nav_images/home.png');
background-repeat: repeat;
background-attachment: scroll;
width: 100px;
background-position: 0%}
#products a {background-image: url('images/nav_images/products.png');
background-repeat: repeat;
background-attachment: scroll;
width: 100px;
background-position: 0%}
#news a {background-image: url('images/nav_images/news.png');
background-repeat: repeat;
background-attachment: scroll;
width: 100px;
background-position: 0%}
#forms a {background-image: url('images/nav_images/forms.png');
background-repeat: repeat;
background-attachment: scroll;
width: 100px;
background-position: 0%}
#contact a {background-image: url('images/nav_images/contact.png');
background-repeat: repeat;
background-attachment: scroll;
width: 100px;
background-position: 0%}
#members a {background-image: url('images/nav_images/members.png');
background-repeat: repeat;
background-attachment: scroll;
width: 100px;
background-position: 0%}
HTML:
< div id="header">
< ul>
< li id="home">< a href="index.php">Home
< li id="products">< a href="#">Products
< li id="news">< a href="#">News
< li id="forms">< a href="#">Forms
< li id="contact">< a href="#">Contact
< li id="members">< a href="#">Members
< /ul>
< /div>
Can anyone tell me what I need to do in order to get this to work in IE? Sorry if it's a bit extensive. I've tried looking on the net, but can't seem to find the right thing. If anyone knows of a good tutorial on how to do this I would appreciate a link. Thanks for any help!

Help! I've been wronged!
Date: 09/13/06
Keywords: web
Question about income here. Long story short – I work as the sole in house designer for a corporation in Gainesville florida. When I was hired I was solely the web master and I built 2 websites plus redesigned the intranet. Once that was finished I branched out and began doing all the design both web wise and print wise which saves the company a lot of money. I play creative director, project manager and designer all rolled up into one person and I am incredibly busy most of the time. When I first started I was seated with the IT dept. It was a stifling environment for me plus most of the people I do work for are NOT in IT. The head of IT is your typical passive aggressive control freak and not a good manager plus he dislikes me. In short – I was told I’m being moved to the department where I should have been in the first place which is a good thing – but my annual review was one of the worst in my career and he made me feel as if the decision was not in my favor. He changed my managers excellent scores for me from 4’s to 2’s and made comments on the review that were off the mark and unwarranted. I was supposed to get a raise that would take me from 34K a year to 40K a year and because of his dislike for me he gave a 1300 dollar a year raise instead. Not horrible, but not what someone who has been doing the work of 3 people with no one directly managing my time should get. He didn’t want me to move – my new boss specifically asked for me to be moved and everyone there sees the work I do which, not to sound like a snob, is excellent and always on time.
I want to appeal and ask for what I’m worth and for what I’ve worked hard for. I’ve never in my professional career had a review like this and so I’ve never had to appeal for a raise before. What should I do? How should I go about this? My research shows that 40K is exactly what I should be making as a base income with Sr. graphic designer and web master salaries combined and averaged.
Help!!! I’m really angry about this and I don’t think my new boss knows that
I was low balled.

Accessibility and CSS Rollovers
Date: 09/12/06
Keywords: css, html
I'm using the method described here to create rollovers via CSS, but I have a question about accessibility.
I'm making a rollover for a "Zoom Images" button. The button is entirely image-based (no html text). Normally, for an image-based link, I'd just add the "Zoom Picture" text to the alt tag for accessibility, but since this method is based on background images, there's not really any way to do that.
This method was featured on A List Apart, and I'd be surprised to see them promote something that wasn't accessible, so maybe I'm missing an easy method here. Obviously, I could just adapt the link to be partially text-based, but I'm wondering if there's another way...

HTML question

Good day everybody!
I'm having a probem with "width" attribute in "img src" tag, when using it with percent
and not pixels value.
I'm creating a table of one row, each "td" of which will contain an image only, in
resized smaller version.
I do not want to create a separate thumbnail for each image, thus I'm using
'img src="myImage.jpg" width="25%" ' in each "td" to make them smaller.
BUT - each cell becomes very wide!
instead of
If I use width=100, for example, (in exact pixels) for my images, or do not use "width"
attribute at all -- each cell has no empty space around an image (both in resized and
original size), and fits it tight.
But the moment I resize the image, using the "width" with percent -- again the cells are
deformed, leaving much space around each image!
I tried to diminish each cell manually, by inserting width attribute into each "td"
with smaller size - but it does not work.
Is it possible to overcome that problem?
Thank you very much!
