  3. Flash preloader

    Date: 03/08/05     Keywords: no keywords

I'm having difficulty finding a sensible preloader tutorial for Flash MX. I want to create a simple bar that fills in corospondance to the percentage loaded of the main swf. No dynamic text. Any good simple tutorials out there that will help me with the action script?

Tutorials always seem to have too many bells and whistles or not enough, yeah?

  4. Client Side Photo Gallery -- Shameless self promotion

    Date: 03/08/05     Keywords: java

I recently finished up a JavaScript photo gallery for my personal site...so I documented it on my journal..

The script takes a page of thumbnails and automatically creates the zoomed view based on the image clicked. It even works with the back button.

Hope some folks find it useful.

  5. Reverse IP and webhosts

Date: 03/08/05     Keywords: web, hosting, yahoo

Hi, I have a technical question about webhosts and servers. Let me know if I should post my question in another community.

I am using Yahoo webhosting. I did a whois search of my domain name using www.whois.sc. Whois.sc reports that the revese IP address Web server hosts 11,000 websites. Does this mean that 11,000 share the same IP address? Does Yahoo's DNS and network uses some kind of network address translator (NAT) to route packets to the proper web server and website?

The revers DNS of the IP address points to a Yahoo.com address, not my domain. Anyway, I am just wondering. It's no big deal.

I need to read the help files about access logs. Later everyone.

  7. HTML?

    Date: 03/07/05     Keywords: html, web

I have some knowledge of HTML. In fact, I made my first website (which I never posted on the internet) in HTML. Wasn't very pretty, but it was a good start. The best HTML editor would have to be HTMLed 3.2 (not the Pro). I think the non-pro one is free. It has syntax highlighting and all that jazz.

Does anyone else here have knowledge of HTML?

  8. Frames help?

    Date: 03/07/05     Keywords: web

Okay, I'm designing a site for a friend at www.twelve-oclock.com

For the most part, its going to be a simple website, so I'm not trying to get fancy with it. I decided using frames was a
    decent way to handle this.

    My problem is this.
My frames match up when I"m 800x600.
But I cant seem to get the frames to match up at the other resolutions.
I'd like it where the menu and the content are always underneath the
header graphic (which is 800 pixels long).

Is there something I'm forgetting here? Why is my context text starting so far over?
I'm sure its something small that I've forgotten, and I would be grateful for any pointers.

    Thank you.

  9. Can CSS do this?

    Date: 03/07/05     Keywords: css

    I have two

's that I want to appear side by side. They must have the same top alignment, reguardless of height. And to make things more difficult, they must take up the entire width of the screen.

This is easy enough to do with tables:

    Left
    Right

But I've heard the claim that CSS can do anything that tables can, so how do I do this?

  11. explination

    Date: 03/07/05     Keywords: no keywords

I think I was far too vague when asking for help. Here's the problem:

I have a layout, but when it comes to coding it, i'm having difficulties. I have everything sliced correctly, and uploaded. I put in the header, but when it comes to the tables, I can't figure it out. I can add the "navigation" and "links" content boxes without any difficulties, but when it comes to adding the content box, I can't seem to position it right. If I add more then one column, it won't let me put any space between the content box and the boxes on the left. Help please?

  15. column text wrapping?

Date: 03/04/05     Keywords: php, programming, css, html

i doubt you can do this.. but i was wondering if there was a way to use any sort of programming to text wrap between 2 columns.

i have a page with 2 columns of text, side by side, and i don't want the white space at the bottom. however, since text is displayed differently on different platforms [mac and pc] i have to just leave it and increase the padding an paragraph set up specifically for the pc. i still have the white space and i can't stand it.

so, i was wondering if anyone knew of any code to text wrap in html, css, js, php - anything - between columns.

    thanks :]

I was thinking of heading over to the local computer show this weekend and picking myself up a $40 copy of Flash 4. Flash MX sucks because it always freezes my computer (I probably need more RAM, but nuts to that.) I want to know if anyone has used Flash 4 before and what their experiences were like. Thanks.

we have a home network, and use a G5 desktop computer along with a Powerbook G4, both with OSX, if that makes any difference.

  20. New here

    Date: 03/01/05     Keywords: web

    The frames alternative question...

I'm creating a web site that has a flash header (with navigation) and a flash side bar. These elements are part of the basic layout and are going to be on every page of the site... I would like to have it so that when I click on a link in the header the content area changes, but the header and sidebar do not reload. I *could* use frames... but I refuse.

I've used includes before as an alternative to frames, but with includes the shared elements still reload on every page.

How do I accomplish this without using frames?

    Thanks for any help :)
