DVD Drive Help...

Date: 08/10/06 (Computer Help)    Keywords: no keywords

I was watching a DVD on my computer and suddenly the program (WinDVD) froze. I had to force it to close and now for some reason as a result, my DVD drive has stopped recognizing any disc as being in the drive. It'll act as if the drive is empty, even when it's not. I tried various sorts of discs (DVDs, Music CDs, Data CDs, etc.) and my computer will tell me that the drive is empty. I already tried toubleshooting the drive and it says that the device is working properly and I tried a couple of the troubleshooting directions for the drive and none worked.

My computer is an HP Pavillion 752n desktop, with Windows XP. It has a 60GB Memory & is a 2.0 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor. I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but the name of the DVD-ROM is: HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8160B

    Any advice?
    Thanks.
