Router problems

I've always noticed that when I'm using my laptop (which uses the router wirelessly), and I have my desktop computer (connected directly to the router) off, the router goes off - as in, the lights turn orange - within a few minutes, especially when a page is loading, and I have to go all the way downstairs to unplug it and plug it back in so it'll come back on. The signal strength always says "excellent," even right before it goes off.

When I have my desktop computer on, however, this does not happen.

Anyone happen to know why it happens, and/or any way to fix it? I can't just leave my desktop on all the time...
