Hewlett Packard Deskjet 5150 question

Date: 10/10/05 (Computer Help)    Keywords: software

Hi, my name is Heather, and IT services at this university are now sufficiently convinced I'm an idiot for not being aware of A4 sized printing paper, and so I am holding off turning to them for the moment, so here goes:

I have a Hewlett Packard 5150. It is quite beaten up, since it is from 2003 and on top of that has been roughly shipped across the Atlantic with no "Fragile" mark on it or sufficient packing, no doubt.

Enough personal stuff, though, my question is this. I have adjusted the settings and things for the aforementioned A4 paper, and the readings for ink say they're fine, and I am convinced the program is fine since it was not the software that was shipped across the Atlantic, but I continually receive this message when attempting to print:

    "L5C
    Paper Jam
Remove small media rear feeder and two sided printing module from the rear of the device and clear the jam..."

And then it goes on to say not to attempt to pull the jammed paper out through the front. Which is a dumb disclaimer considering it cannot even pull the paper into the gears to jam it.

    What should I do?

    Thank you.
