My computer seems to have caught a bad case of the worm W32.Sunk-A (formerly known as skunk.exe ...), sadly by my own fault. Now, when first notified of that, I did what I was taught to do, that is, shut down my PC. Which of course meant that what ever little control I had over the computer before was lost, as I found out when I opened it a bit later, with the teachings of this in mind.

Now, since I can't seem to do absolutely anything on my computer, I thought I'd ask if there's anything that you know of that I can do to cure my PC. If there's absolutely nothing I can do, I'll turn it over to professionals on Monday. I'm sure there's nothing better I can do for it than that, but sadly tomorrow is Sunday, and I have a couple of essay deadlines on Monday. And I could really use the help of my computer in actually meeting them.

hello. I am trying to play a video I downloaded in the *.avi format. I open it with quicktime and it take me to this site http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html But I have no idea which one I should choose. I just use quicktime for playing movies or like things from the internet. This has happened before where it could not play the file type I had. I am using an iBook G4 Mac OS.X. I did try reading their descriptions but I could not really make sense of what I needed. Other than obviously not iPix and such. Thanks for your help.

ok, i have a question. firstly im using an emachines computer with windows XP. anyhoo, about 6 months ago, the sound on my computer suddenly stoped working. the headphones worked fine, so i contacted emachines and they replaced the speakers. the new speakers worked just fine up until about a week ago. now sound will play breifly, and suddenly stop. i tryed plugging headphones in, and they dont work either now. nothing is muted, everythings plugged in. when the sound stops working, i dont hear sound from any program weather it be windows media player, a game, or even system sound. i went through the troubleshooting wizard and still cant figure anything out. please dont tell me i need to open up my computer and remove my sound card or that somethings melting in my computer! ack! anyone have any ideas? thank you!!

I'm having a really annoying problem with macromedia flash 8. (Running win98 & IE 6.0):

I installed the flash 8 plugin, and my browser keeps flickering. I uninstall it, the flickering goes away, but now i'm prompted 800 times a day to re-install it whenever I go to a page that has any kind of flash.

I want to install it, but the "flickering" is really annoying .. it happens everytime I pass my mouseover a link or just when there is a flash on a page.

Any help will be appreciated!

Novice Question here. All of the web pages I look at in my computers browsers (Internet Explorer and Mozzila Firefox) have always seemed too big when compared to other computers I’ve used. How does one shrink down all the pictures and graphics one is looking at, thus making the webpage look smaller. I can only change the size of the text at this point.

HELP!!

i'm running windows 98 SE. (Using the library's comp.) I stupidly (after re-installing IE 6.0) used microsoft windows update to find "crtical updates" for my computer, so I downloaded and installed them, and when I restarted, I got this at my desktop:

"a required .DLL file, C:WINDOWS/SYSTEM/SHLWAPI.DLL, was not found."

then I clicked out of that, and got:

"error loading explorer.exe. You must reinstall windows."

it's impossible to get into windows now.

what the hell did windows update do???!?

I tried to get into safe mode, I couldn't, and and I had to use my win98 boot disk to get it to a command prompt, where I tried to restore the registry from DOS. I restored it from the earilest backup, but the problem still remained when I got to the desktop, so it didn't work.

Then I used the windows 98 CD and the win98 boot disk to get to the command prompt to restore the missing file from the CD to the windows/system directory. I no longer got the "you must reinstall windows" or "shlwapi.dll is missing" error, but now when I try to load my desktop, my custom background loads, but no taskbar or icons will load. It stops and gives me a new error:

" This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module explorer.exe at 0167:00401f31."

(stackdump, random numbers, etc)

after clicking out of that dialog box, the desktop stays blank and refuses to load. There is no taskbar, icons, or anything else, just my background. Nothing works, I have to restart using ctrl+alt+del.

* Reformatting is NOT an option since I now have no way to backup my files.

If anyone can tell me what to do to make the desktop load properly so I can back my files up, i'd greatly appreciate it. If anyone needs additional info from me to fix the issue, please ask me.

I own a domain name and it seems to have been hyjacked by spammers. I've checked with the webhosters and they say that the mail relay is closed.
I am getting a lot of rejected emails from recipients receiving emails from spoofed addresses within my domain. I am concerned about my domain being blacklisted.

Is there anything that I can do to protect my domain name?

My computer is lagging, and when I open the Windows Task Manager the PF Usage is really high, even when having only one Internet Explorer window open. What does PF Usage mean? Is it bad that it reaches almost 400MB? What can I do to make it go down? On my other computer it's not nearly that high, and I don't know what's different about it.

If it helps at all, it's a Compaq Presario, with Windows XP Home Edition. Actually, both computers are the same...almost.

I've just made a burnt copy of a music CD. I am just wondering why is it that when I play it on the computer, the artist's name and name of the song doesn't appear? It always says untitled. How can I make it so that it will tell the name of the artist and song... I am using Nero 6, by the way. Thanks.
