IE and proxy auth

Is there any way to make IE connect through proxy with password authorization?
I just don't see where to input login/password in its proxy settings.
P.S. Installing local proxy and use it as buffer isn't really good idea.

Outlook Express

I am trying to set up my Outlook Express account, but my e-mail is through Yahoo!, the free one.
The only way you can configure Outlook to Yahoo is through Yahoo! Plus, which is $20.
Does anyone know of any e-mail hosts that configure with Outlook without being required to upgrade for a fee???

Hello.. I have a silly question about windows 3.1
Date: 09/07/05
Keywords: no keywords
Yes. A question about 3.1.
I was running 3.1 when I was a younger kid.. and I was trying to remember the name of a screensaver ... it had some guy on a deserted island... he would walk around, pick up bottles that floated up, and wave at ships. It was super rad. I would love to have it again..
just a name would be great, but if there was a way I could run it on Mac OSX ... I think I would be in heaven. thanks a lot guys.

2003 IP 'Gateways'
Date: 09/04/05
Keywords: no keywords
Am I going about this the correct way?
I have a 2003 server set up as a routing and remote access server. I have another 2003 set up as a DNS and DHCP server.
When my clients log in I have it set up so that when they request something on the internet, the RAS server automatically dials the internet connection. I noticed that when my 2003 DNS/DHCP server tried accessing the internet, it did it just fine. The server has a static IP address with the gateway portion pointed to the RAS server's IP.
When my DCHP enabled clients come on, they get their IP and subnets assigned, and when they try to access the internet the RAS server dials but the clients are unable to access the internet. My deduction is that the when the clients obtain DHCP/DNS info the gateway isn't being handed out, which when I check there is no gateway.
So, my question is, is it as simple as going into the DHCP scope options, selecting 'router', and entering the IP address of the RAS server? What happens when I throw a Cisco router in the mix- I simply add an additonal IP for the router in the same place?

This may be a n00b question but if I have multiple domains do I need to have a seperate DNS server set up to service each domain in my forest, or do you just mess with the zones on one already servicing the network (in a diff domain)?

Just a quick clarification question -
My MS Office installation put One Note 2003 on my hard drive, yet it is not accepting my product key. Is One Note included in the purchase of MS Office, or will I need to buy it individually?
Thanks in advance.

powerpoint question
Date: 09/02/05
Keywords: no keywords
is there a way to print 3-slide unframed handouts w/ out the blank lines directly from powerpoint? sending files to word and then deleting the column w/ lines doesn't help since the slides are sent to word framed and i would have to remove each frame manually. unless there's a way to remove the frames in word all in one go. i definitely want 3 slides per page.

Dear group
Last week,a friend of my mine doing her Doctorate came home and while she was here for two some days she tried to hook her Mac notebook to my windows desktop for some internet connection. She had this wireless card and so she did some changes to my windows setting so that that her Mac could receive signals from the Windows machine which was running this internet.
Now she is gone and though my internet still works, when i go to windows update page from tools, windows update in IE, the browser says " Sorry no update for Mac pc". Could anybody tell me whats wrong. Hope i made my self clear. If you need any clarification please do not hesitate to ask me.

Outlook Express - no message text.

Looking for some help.
Running Outlook Express 6 version 6.00.2800.1106 under Windows 2000.
I've just set up a few POP servers under Outlook & I am able to download the messages but I can't view the message text. I've only been able to view it if I go into the properties of the message, details tab & then click on Message Source. I've already checked over & over the POP settings & nothing seems to be off.
Is there something I could be missing?

Games, Sound Recorder...
Date: 08/20/05
Keywords: microsoft
I hope someone can help me with this.
1. I have Windown XP Home Edition. A couple of months ago, I had to reinstall it completely for some reason, and after I did that, I no longer had the usual games that come with Windows (i.e. Solitaire, Pinball, etc.). I would really like to get them back, but I have no idea where to look for it. I don't want to reinstall Windows yet again and risk losing my stuff. I also lost "Sound Recorder" and all those Muktimedia programs. I downloaded Windows Media Player off of microsoft.com, but that's pretty much it.
2. I plugged in the microphone that came with my Dell computer. How would I install the device? I looked through and through the control panel, but I'm not sure where it is. Although, maybe I should check the Dell manual for this one. And I probably will be able to use it once I get Sound Recorder installed again...
Thanks very much in advance!

Turning off Windows Auto Updates in XP...
Date: 08/13/05
Keywords: virus
Awhile back my computer started to act really weird. It froze whenever I went to shut it down and then all of a sudden, wouldn't let me open most of my programs (IE, AOL, Windows Explorer). I updated Norton and ran it and it found a virus. So I figured, took care of that.
Then a few weeks later, all of a sudden, I can't open certain programs again. I realized that there was something in common both times that this happened.
Windows was automatically downloading updates. A year or so ago, my computer suddenly started automatically downloading windows updates, whereas before it would ask me before starting, so I could choose when it did this. The problem I think I'm having is that I have a dial-up (slow as hell) modem which causes issues downloading these updates. What I wanted to know is if it's possible for me to turn off automatic updates and then be able to turn it back on when I have a better (faster) connection when I go back to school?
I'd appreciate any help/advice!

For some reason an album I downloaded weeks and weeks ago (and have played many times) has changed from being mp3s to m4as all on it's own..how is that possible? It'll now only open in itunes which I've never even used before (and really don't care to use again!). Any (free) way to convert them back, but more curiously, I just don't understand why that would happen.. :-\
This isn't off-topic, right?

certifiable.

Keywords: technology, microsoft
Figured some of you might have an answer for these.
I’m looking into getting some Microsoft Certification. At the moment I don’t have any, but to accurately represent where I’m at, I’ve been troubleshooting on my own since Windows 3.x and I do have over a year of tech support experience at work in a Microsoft environment and I definitely have a knack for understanding the processes involved in modern technology, not so much in coding, but I’m defiantly willing and expecting to learn.
Anyway, I’m about a year and a half away from my bachelors (when I finally decide to go back and finish) and I wanted to know what is the latest and greatest as far as certification goes? Considering my current education and experience what the best route for me? Does MS offer this certification themselves? Are there schools out there (I live in New Orleans, the IT un-Mecca)? Is it better to do this online? What sort of damage are we looking at here as far as costs? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Changing the default save directory for certain programs (Acrobat)?
Date: 08/03/05
Keywords: web
I apologize if someone has asked this before, but this is my major XP annoyance of the moment. Whenever I choose to "open" an Adobe file off the web(or play a RealPlayer file off the web), it saves a copy in "My Documents." I don't want it to save in "My Documents" - I want it to save, if it must save at all, on the desktop, so I can more easily find it and clean up the mess. I can't find any info in Acrobat to change the default directory, and since more than one program does this I'm thinking its an annoying Windows problem. Does anyone know how I can change this? Thanks.

temp. internet files
Date: 07/20/05
Keywords: web
hullo, i was wondering how i could get files, for example mp3s from band websites, to not download to temporary internet files (tif). i can never find them if i don't go looking, and would like to send them to c or d drive.
also, i am afraid to delete any tif in case i lose the song or file, even after i've sort-of saved it to realplayer/windows media. will i lose to music in these medias if i delete some or any tif?
can anyone please tell me what to do to change the location of where the files go to?

Excel Question
Date: 06/26/05
Keywords: no keywords
I have two cells with carying numbers in them. In another cell, I want to do the following:
Basically, I want it to compare the contents of those two cells. If they're equal, use that number. If one is lower, use that lower number instead, unless that lower number is zero, in which case it needs to use the higher number.
I'm seeing a LOT of IF statements here, and I'm hoping there's a way to shorten this formula down.
