  10. Installing & Copying XP to get around SATA comflict?

    Date: 07/15/08     Keywords: no keywords

Hi folks I was wondering if this can be done.

I have a original WinXP CD that I'm trying to install on my comp (ASUS P4C800 Deluxe)

For whatever reason whenever I try to install XP it just gets to the Blue screen with windows setup in the top left corner and doesn't go any further. I've left it for whole days and it doesn't do anything more. I think its something to do with SATA and WinXP.

Can I install XP to a IDE drive in the same system then just copy over the fresh install onto a SATA drive and boot from the SATA drive?

I know its long winded but at the moment thats the only way i can see of getting XP onto my SATA drives.

I have no clue about updating my Bios which I'm probably thinking is something that may help or may not but I'm not wanting to run the risk off killing my machine completely with broken Bios as it hasn't been updated since I built it 5yrs ago.

Is it possible to just install XP on a IDE drive, copy over to SATA drive and use the SATA drive as boot/system drive?

    Update:
ok some more info, I noticed when I boot up the Bios for the SATA briefly says there is no Bios installed. I'm thinking maybe I need to install SATA Bios but I never have done tha before. With Win2kPro i just put the CD in and it went and installed no problems. Is there a way to install the SATA Bios?

Also on the Bios my HD is listed as Third IDE Master.

    Primary Master: Not Detected
    Primary Slave: Not Detected
    Secondary Master: DVD
    Secondary Slave: DVDRW
    Third IDE Master: Maxtor 6Y120M0
    Fourth IDE Master: Not Detected

    IDE Configuration
Onboard IDE Operate Mode [enhanced mode]
Enhanced Mode Support On [S-ATA] * this i changed as it was always IDE
IDE Detect Tiem Out (Sec) [35]

  13. Photoshop CS?

    Date: 02/18/08     Keywords: no keywords

I know somebody just posted that they wanted Photoshop CS, but I also was wondering if anyone would be willing to let me download or send me a copy of photoshop CS, I'd be willing to pay up to $40 for it, I know that is no where near what its worth but funds are low and I'd absolutely love to be able to have a good photo editing program again to do graphic design with.

    Thanks <3

  19. Watching Region 2 DVD in Region 1???

    Date: 11/11/07     Keywords: software

I want to buy this DVD, which is a Region 2 Import from the UK. http://www.amazon.com/Spaced-Definitive-Collectors-Region-UK/dp/B000IFOXX2/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-6133607-3929705?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1194797245&sr=8-1

I live in the US, and the description for the DVD says "This DVD will not play on most DVD players sold in the US or Canada [Region 1]. This item requires a region specific or multi-region DVD player and compatible TV." Are many DVD players actually multi-regional? or PAL?

A friend of mine has software to rip and burn DVD's. Would that be a viable solution for this problem? Could I rip the content and burn it onto a new DVD, and then (hopefully) be able to play it on an American player? If nothing else, would I be able to watch this on my computer?

I appreciate any advice on this! Thanks!

  20. I'd prefer not to network the computers, but,,

    Date: 11/09/07     Keywords: html, google

I have an old WindowsME computer which still runs fine, but wanted a laptop, so I bought a 13" white MacBook, which I dearly love.

I need to find a program which will allow me to run my .exe programs on Mac's OSX.
I don't want to have to purchase a new mac version of my .html program, and I prefer my older version of PSP v.7.
I may need to interface CuteFTP (of course I have the old old version) too.

I ordered the new Leopard opsys disk for $10, but I have a feeling that I'd still be looking at purchasing some version of Windows XP (pro?) to run BootCamp, which I'd prefer NOT to run 2 operating systems IF I can find a way to convert my programs for macuse. (The last "real" windows disks I have that are not oem are Win98SE!)

I've googled + found at least 3 programs that would allow .exe files to run on mac osx (not BootCamp or Parallels), but I don't really understand what's involved (I fear messing up my new laptop) + I don't want to spend mega bucks on WindowsXP = only to have my MacBook run slower.

Let me know if networking my older computer to my mac (I have Airport Express) would be the best solution under these circumstances. I'd consider doing that if it's the best + least expensive method, and if I can figure out how to do it.

    Tia.
