1. today my kung fu is weak

    Date: 10/14/05     Keywords: css, html

dang it, I come up with a design that I like and I am having a heck of a time trying to make it work (ie it looks like junk or lines up all funky). Must be all the rain we are having that is throwing off my game.
    link to prototype : here
centering all of this in the page: no problem
making the two middle columns "play nice": more or less ok
keeping the fixed heights the same: not yet
my goal is to use as much css/html/plain old text so that I basically just have two images (bottom left and top right), the font used in the prototype is not what I have planned for the page (I really am not militant on fonts) so don't get really worked up on this.

my two designs that I have tried were to have two columns or two rows contained inside another div but something just is not working. The rows or columns I want to have fixed sizes, but float in the middle of the page.

  2. Restart

    Date: 10/13/05     Keywords: web

Ok, so I've been designing web sites for my friends and myself for a while. Now, I have a co-worker who wants me to design a site for his music production company. We've talked about it for months and I've done a few tiny things. He's never really been clear on what he wants so I've just let it go by the wayside. Now, I want to restart and get on the ball the correct way. The only problem is I'm not really sure what the steps are when taking on a new project. I'm completely lost when it comes to the business side; proposal, quote, contract, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  3. Oh dear, oh dear...

    Date: 10/13/05     Keywords: web

I had cause to go to a company's web site via the domain name in an e-mail. There's nothing set up at all. But I know who the parent company is so I visited their Flash-fronted web site (with broken counter image) before clicking through to the subsidiary company link which took me to their frames-based site.

According to the top bar, the date and time is presently 13 December 2005 - 2:54:18 PM.

    Why is the date wrong?

    var months = new Array("January","February","March","April","May","June","September","August","November","December");

Anyone see what's wrong with that picture? ~:0)

    Date: 10/12/05     Keywords: web

Some blighters have copied my web site entirely - then stuck adverts into it. The usual course of action is to send emails which are, of course, ignored.

What's the next step? Anyone had any joy here?

I'm looking for someone who has done work with developing online courses/tutorials to subcontract some work to. I have some of the details that outline the project, and I can go into further detail over email. Get in touch if you're interested in finding out more. I'm intentionally keeping this brief for the sake of those who are uninterested.

  11. Achtung!

    Date: 10/10/05     Keywords: no keywords

Attention, it isn't possible to skip!
All who see it, are morally obliged to answer :)

Please, give me verbal pictures (also especially creative people can illustrate own answer) to two phrases:

    • "Searching for work";

    • "Searching for employee (worker)";

Now I'll explain my question. For example, somebody ask me: "draw good weather", no matter if I'm bad or good artist, but before drawing I already know, what exactly I shall draw - it's the sun. Thus, my verbal picture, it's the sun .
More examples: "Sex" - 2 little-peoples in some pose or simply heart.

The more you will answer, the more I'll be grateful to each of you. Really :)

facilitate the author's life (give answer to this question in his LJ)

  12. HELP!

    Date: 10/10/05     Keywords: web, yahoo

    x-posted to all over. Sorry!

I posted this a few days ago and deleted it because the circumstances are a little different now. If this isn't allowed here, I'll delete it, but I read the rules and didn't see anything against this.

I'm searching for someone who is good at coding (both for LiveJournal Layouts and Website Designs/Layouts) but doesn't like the actual designing or just is better at the coding/installing of layouts.

The reason is that I have a layout community, '[info]'cherryxlayouts, and I need someone to partner up with to run the community. I got a comment in my last post that someone was interested, but I don't think they are anymore considering I haven't gotten an email back in about a week or more. In this "partnership", I would be the designer, and you would be the one doing the coding and also helping anyone who needs help in installing web layouts.

If you'd like to join the community and check it out first, feel free to, but it's really just a rough draft and I'm not done with it yet (such as the sidebar and request posts).

If you're interested, you can comment here, email me at deviant_queen@yahoo.com or IM me at galelvr66 (AIM), deviant_queen (YIM), or deviant_queen@hotmail.com (MSN) so we can work out the details.

    Thank you,
    Lyndz

PS. I will delete this post once I find someone to help me. :D

    Date: 10/09/05     Keywords: css, web

    Hi all,
I am doing a gambling website. I want my lists to display diamonds, hearts, spades and clubs as the list marker in a sequential order. Is there a way to do this with CSS? I thought counter might let me do it, but I dont think its the correct application for that property. Any ideas on how to do this in an automated fashion are welcome.

    Thanks

  18. Mac IE glitch

    Date: 10/07/05     Keywords: html, web

First of all, I've gotten a lot of help here, and I really appreciate it. I have yet another problem. The website I set up for a client has a glitch on the menu here: http://www.armetta.com/portfolio/work1.html

I realize that IE is much less popular than Safari, but I would like to fix this. I also know that I have the page set up in a bit of an unusual way. I'm tempted to recode it using just tables instead of the lists. But if there is a simpler adjustment I can make to the existing code, I'd love to know.

    Thanks again!!!

  19. For Students

Date: 10/07/05     Keywords: software, hosting, spam

Hey guys. I'm new here and I would be lying if I said I didnt join just to make this post.

(this is not spam, just a good opportunity for students with mad skillz)

I work for a software company that sells discounted software to students and schools. Our hot sellers these days are the graphic programs like Maya and 3DsMax. Our student division, Studica - is hosting a graphics design contest, with $500 for first place in each software category. It is open only to students, unfortumately (sorry), and they will mandate student proof for an entry to qualify.

    http://www.studica.com/skills/

    Check it out.

(I get no perks if you enter, I'm just trying to promote this contest for my company. I also will not have any say in the judging, I doubt I will even see the entries as I work in the school division, Torcomp.

Apologies if this sort of post is not wanted here, I was told this community might have interested members)

    x-posted everywhere.
