Recently my history professor was finally persuaded to switch over to firefox on his Mac. He loves firefox and thinks it is awesome however he cannot copy and paste and whenver he saves images from firefox it saves them exteremly small however his other browser does not do this. I am not a mac person and I wish I knew how to tell him to fix it however I do not know so I told him I would post here and see if any of you would be able to help.I know that all of you have been extremely helpful to me in the past and I was hoping you could do the same for him.
He is running firefox 1.0.4 and it has no extensions or anything special installed at all.
He is running Mac 0S X 10.3.8

New to FireFox....
Date: 06/13/05
(Mozilla) Keywords: browser, web, google
I just installed Firefox today and everything seems okay but i have a few questions, maybe someone can help me out here.
1. I use MSN Messenger and whenever i receive an e-mail on my Hotmail account i get a little pop up letting me know. When i click the pop up it takes me to my e-mail. The problem is that it opens/uses IE instead of Firefox. Is there anyway of making MSN open Firefox and not IE? I made Firefox my primary web browser if that helps any.
2. Is Firefox compatible with Window Blinds?
3. Firefox has a google search thing at the top and whenever i use it to search the search opens in the window/tab i am using, is there a way to make it open a new tab?
Hope to get help soon. Thanks.
T.

Before I added the Sessions functions to my project, a user could click the browser back (or javascript history) and the form data would be there. Now with Sessions enabled, the data is missing.
Is there a work-around to this clearing of the form?

Question regarding profiles/cloning.
Date: 06/17/05
(Mozilla) Keywords: browser
OK, here's the deal: I would like to set up two different configurations of Firefox. One would be my primary browser for everyday browsing, and the second would be a browser with different extensions and configuration options for when I am working on projects. My first thought was to find a way to install a second, separate/independent version of Firefox, but that would be rather cumbersome and I am not even sure if I could actually do it. I started reading a little bit about the "profiles" though, and that seems like the ideal solution. The thing is, I would like to set it up so that when I open up Firefox, it loads my primary browser by default, but I want to have a second shortcut that would load up Firefox directly into the alternate profile (bypassing the "Choose User Profile" dialog"). Is there a command line that would load a specific profile? That way I could have Firefox set to load the primary profile by default, but I could create a second shortcut in my start menu that would have the command line to open Firefox directly into the alternate profile. If this much is possible, is it also possible to have two separate Firefox windows open at the same time using the two different profiles? I am guessing that I can't have the two profiles in use by the same application at the same time, so would it be possible to make a clone of the .exe that could be used to run the secondary profile? In other words, to have two Firefox applications running at the same time but using different profiles?
For reference, I am using Windows 98SE and Firefox version 1.0.4.

Frustrating...
Date: 06/17/05
(WebDesign) Keywords: templates, browser, css, html, java, web
[First of all yes when I set up internet explorer to be one of the browsers to view my webpage I called it Microblows in dreamweaver so I do click preview in microblows.]
I don't quite know what to change, I can edit code as needed but don't get my problem. Unfortuneately the webpage is not online cause I can't get rid of the old version before putting the new fully functional one up so I'll put the code in a cut. The problem is though that when I preview in microblows I get to see it as I should, the corner images line up properly and I see the proper coloring [bg one course and table background one are two different colors.... well three if you cound the few cells in the table that's white]. When I preview in firefox [1.0.4 if there's a newer vers feel free to let me know] however there's a problem... the whistspace is still there in the middle of the table however the color that should be in the rest of the table surrounding the white is nonexistant for coloring... it's just the same color as the background of the page. This is driving me bonkers cause it's more important for it to work with the browser I use [at least to me].
Oh and yes I use dreamweaver.
All bracets have been replaced with squared ones.

Browser JavaScript?
Date: 06/17/05
(Opera Browser) Keywords: browser, java, web
Does anyone have any experience with this yet? I've been reading "Browser JavaScript Explained," and it sounds pretty neat to me.
Browser JavaScript is a feature that allows Opera to automatically fix incompatible Web pages, out of date scripts, and pages that inadvertently block Opera.
There's also a list of patched sites on that explanation page. :)

CGI
Date: 06/19/05
(Web Development) Keywords: mysql, browser, database, sql
Hi everyone this is my first post and my first Python script.
The script will take a URL as input. The URL will look something like this.
thevenuslist.com/show_image.py/55.jpg
The script will then take the 55 and use it to retrieve binary data for an image from a database. Then image headers will be sent to the browser followed by the binary information.
I think I am having a problem with the headers. When I run the script from command line I get the headers and then a bunch of goo which is the binary information but when I run it from the browser I get an error.
#!/usr/bin/python
import MySQLdb, cgi, string, os
def getScriptname():
""" Return the scriptname part of the URL. """
return os.environ.get('SCRIPT_NAME', '')
def getPathinfo():
""" Return the remainparth of the URL. """
pathinfo = os.environ.get('PATH_INFO' '')
# fix fr a well known bug in IIS/4.0
if os.name == 'nt':
scriptname = getScriptName()
if string.find(pathinfo, scriptname) == 0:
pathinfo = pathinfo[len(scriptname):]
return pathinfo
def getData(idNumber):
Con = MySQLdb.connect(host="",
db="",
port=3306,
user="",
passwd="")
Cursor = Con.cursor()
sql = "SELECT binary_data FROM pictures WHERE picture_id = '15'"
Cursor.execute(sql)
# print sql
# print idNumber
result = Cursor.fetchall()
Con.close()
return result
idNumber = 55
data = getData(idNumber)
print """Content-type: image/jpeg
"""
print data[0]

General layout question
Date: 06/21/05
(WebDesign) Keywords: browser, css
What do you think is best for setting up the layout of a page? Absolute positioning with CSS? Tables? Combination of the two?
I'm familiar with both, but just unsure of which is most effective. And which tends to have less browser issues...although I suppose if you know what you're doing, the cross-browser compatibility of your pages isn't an issue.

There are only two approved browsers at Big Blue - IE and Firefox. I'm not allowed the suite. What I miss most are the per-cookie rejections I used to be able to manage under Mozy Suite.
There must be an extension I can add for finer cookie control? Suggestions welcome...
