Would anyone like a website?
Date: 07/20/05
(PHP Community) Keywords: php, web, google
I need to relinquish control of my pet project, advicenators.com. It's an advice-column community with a little over 22,000 registered members who are suffering because I do not have time to keep it up, secure, with new features people want. Currently hosted on a dual-2.8GHz pentium server, pulls less than 40GB per month. I'm not really making money on it. I mean, some months the google check is $150 or so but most of the time it doesn't make that.
I was going to sell it, but really all I want to know is that it's in good hands... someone who knows php and would be willing to work with the community and help it grow as a website. I don't want it to die; the member base I've built up deserves to keep what they've worked for. I have some offers but I want to keep seeing what's out there. I've always kinda wanted to see the code open-sourced but I'm way too busy to consider being the point of contact on that sort of thing, so I haven't done it.
Any interest here?

I am running mozilla firefox v. 1.05 with tabbed browsing and adblock installed on a computer running windows xp pro. The computer has multiple user accounts on it. Anyways under the admin account I cannot check gmail with firefox in the admin account however in all the limited account it runs fine and there is no problem. If I start up under firefox safe mode I can check gmail. I can log into gmail however once I log in all I get is a white screen and I never see the "loading tab" or anything else. Please advise, thank you.
::EDIT:: I fixed it. Someone added all content from gmail.google.com to adblock. I solved my own problem.

Frustration....
Date: 07/26/05
(MySQL Communtiy) Keywords: php, mysql, html, sql, web, microsoft, google
Windows XP SP2
MySQL Version -- 4.1.13
PHP Version -- 5.0.4
Web Server -- IIS 6.0
Dreamweaver MX 6.1
Frustration Level -- Through the ROOF!!!
Last I posted, I was having troubles with permissions. Well, to resolve that little issue I re-install MySQl. Admin permissions are now accessible.
PROBLEM: I am unable to connect to my test server through Dreamweaver MX. I was getting the oh so helpful error message: "An unidentified error has occurred." I changed some permissions (I don't know which ones at this moment) and then I was getting the error message "HTML error code 403 forbidden". Now, I'm back to "An unidentified error has occurred." It's got to be a permissions issue but for the life of me I can't figure out which ones. I am also having an issue viewing "http://localhost/" without having to enter a password. I can view other pages on localhost just not the root. I'm sure that has something to do with my test server issue. I have gone through the MySQL manual online and offline. I scoured microsoft.com and msdn for help with the Windows permissions. I have googled all there is to google and I want to google NO MORE. I did find an article reguarding my helpful "An unidentified error has occurred" message (link - technote).
It said to install 6.1 updater for Dreamweaver MX, so I did and no change. I re-ployed the connection scripts and no change. I stopped and restarted the services and nothing. I meticulously inspected all folders that need to be accessible for the server and whatever else needs them, and no dice. I found this technote (Technote), useless. I have pretty much done everything that flipping article said and any other articles that I have found and of course no change.
So there inlays my dilemma. Where do I go from here????

How Accurate is Google Image Search

subquery question
Date: 07/29/05
(MySQL Communtiy) Keywords: mysql, sql, web, google
I am trying to execute a delete using a subquery but I keep getting the same error and google and mysql.com are both no use as to what the error actually means
My query is this
delete from exon where exon_id in(select exon.exon_id from exon left join exon_transcript on exon.exon_id = exon_transcript.exon_id where exon_transcript.exon_id is NULL);
and this is the error
ERROR 1093 (HY000): You can't specify target table 'exon' for update in FROM clause
do you have any ideas what I am doing wrong?
exon_transcript is a table which links the exon table with another table called transcript and there were a series of rows missing from exon transcript so the links weren't present
I have been able to use other methods to delete the links from transcript but I can't see any other way of deleting the links from exon
if you want to see the schema description have a look here
http://cvsweb.sanger.ac.uk/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/ensembl/sql/table.sql?rev=1.229&view=log
I am using this version of mysql
mysql Ver 14.7 Distrib 4.1.12, for dec-osf5.1b (alphaev68) using readline 4.3
thanks

The Corporate Face of Mozilla
Date: 08/04/05
(Mozilla) Keywords: software, browser, html, web, google
Hi Folks:
Mozilla was born as a grass-roots organization to design a product using the brainpower by thousands of users around the globe. It was not organized as a profit-oriented organization. Ever since its appearance in the spotlight at the end of last year, its star product Firefox, has enjoyed a tremendous acceptance in the browser community. Every month, Firefox has gradually gaining ground at the browser behemoth Internet Explorer. To date, the free software has been downloaded more than 75 million times and its market share is estimated to be approaching 10 percent.
In an effort to attend a new wave of users and its recent relationship with Google, Mozilla has organized a subsidiary under the name of Mozilla Corp. Mozilla Corp. will work mainly on developing and delivering free software products such as the Firefox browser and Thunderbird e-mail program. The foundation will manage projects, set policies and organize relationships among developers.
The new business will be based in Mountain View, as is the foundation. It is expected to have about 30 employees, compared with three or four at the foundation, Baker said. Its software will remain free.
Frank Hecker, director of policy for the Mozilla Foundation, said the for-profit arm will give the project more options. Already, Google Inc. (GOOG) pays Mozilla an unspecified amount to ship Firefox with a version of Google's search engine as the default home page.
Is something sniffing in the air? Is Mozilla preparing itself to enter the commercial field based on its success with Firefox? Who knows? Let's keep our radars active.

javascript help...
Date: 08/03/05
(WebDesign) Keywords: html, java, google
Having a brain freeze, sorry.
I'm trying to make it so that a parent window opens a new child window (full size, no pop up shennanigans!) and then closes itself - the parent is a snap to fit, and the child would be a full size because they've moved to a new section of the site.
so far, my code looks thusly :
< a href="javascript:window.open('http://pagehere.html', ' '); window.opener.close( );" >
which, as you might guess since I'm asking you guys...isn't working. and everything I google is telling me that I can't close the parent window...any suggestions?
ETA : Sorry, I keep forgetting they invalidated the < pre> code on LJ.

web hosting with VPS

(Computer Geeks) Keywords: web, linux, hosting, google
So i'm in the market for getting VPS web hosting. I've found westhost, which seems to have a great deal going on. Have any of you heard of them, used them, or have horror stories about them? I've googled a bit for information about them, but as always, first-hand experience is more reliable.
Any other VPS recommendations if you have it would be great.

Puting together a computer system for an extended road trip
Date: 08/07/05
(Computer Help) Keywords: google
I'm 21, just about to get my class A license and do long haul trucking. I plan on setting up a computer system in the truck and I'd like your input.
- A 12v power inverter (So I can hook 110v devices to the truck battery) and a power strip (of course)
- A good laptop with a 17" screen. I would like to play new computer games on the coputer, is that possible on a laptop? Do some come with upgradable video cards?
- USB 2.0 video in so I can play console games on my laptop screen.
- Satellite Internet & Satellite TV (on the same dish)
- External hard drive(s) or one 3.5" enclosure and multiple "internal" hard drives. Going with the enclosure would be more cost effective, I think.
- I *plan* on downloading media while I'm driving, but I don't know how feasible this actually is. I've heard of people using satellite internet on a boat though, and I would think that would get a considerably poorer signal than driving. If anybody has some input on this point, I'd appreciate it.
- High quality computer speakers and sub woofer to put on the dash, as the speakers the truck comes with will probably be poor quality (I won't own the truck so I don't to go to the trouble of puting in panel speakers).
- I'd like to get satellite radio (Sirius or XM), which I'd like to run through the laptop and through the computer speakers, circumventing the truck's poor sound system altogether. Is this possible without additional hardware? If so, what would I need?
- While I'm driving, I'll put my laptop as close to the dash as I can and run a trackball mouse to my lap so I can change playlists while driving (would be safer than leaning over to adjust a radio).
- A cheap usb gps locator and google earth for directions and to keep a detailed map of where I've been.
- I'll probably pick up a large tv/monitor (around 24", I'm thinking) that is HD ready for xbox 360 coming out this fall. Any input you have on a really good tv/monitor would be appreciated.
If there's anything else you can think of, let me know. Money isn't really an object as long hauls pay very well. Thanks :)
