1. Sysprep / Mini-Setup

Date: 09/30/08 (IT Professionals)    Keywords: hosting, microsoft

Does anybody have experience configuring computers and then using the Sysprep tool for automating a bit of the Ghosting process?

What things should I be looking out for while doing this? Anything special I should keep in mind? I've got some articles off of Microsoft.com bookmarked so later I can do more than just skim them, but I wanted opinions from people who actually have experience with it.

    Thanks!

  2. Potentially inappropriate

Date: 07/29/08 (IT Professionals)    Keywords: web, yahoo, microsoft

My post is mainly behind a cut because this is really a question for an IT Professional because I am not an IT Professional. Or at least I think it is a question for an IT Professional. Anyway, I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this.

My question involves Microsoft SharePoint 2007. The other important factor is that my question should be answered considering WSS and not MOSS. I appreciate anyone taking the time to answer this question.

I feel like I have exhausted the Microsoft TechNet SharePoint TechCenter and I'm looking for websites or books to help me understand SharePoint better. Ideally I would like an explanation and a step-by-step creation and configuration process for each of the creatable list, library, discussion board, survey, page or site. Example: document library, form library, announcements, project tasks, issue tracking, custom list, site and workspace.

While that is a more generalized request, my immediate goal is to solve this request: utilzing SharePoint 2007 I have been asked to create something like Yahoo!Answers where people can ask technical questions and the folks who answer them can be awarded points for correct answers and in this way earn a certain amount of prestige (and perhaps prizes). I was thinking of using Records Management or Issue Tracking but truthfully without being able to plug in data or pull data from a certain place, this is becoming difficult and frustrating.

    Your help is greatly appreciated!

  3. Dealing With Outlook

Date: 01/16/09 (Web Development)    Keywords: web, microsoft, apache

I noticed in my employer's server logs that I'm getting a lot of strange requests in this format:
    "PROPFIND /instmsg/aliases/[username goes here] HTTP/1.1" 405 335 "-" "-"

I'm not too familiar with PROPFIND, but I found out this is Outlook asking for information about the username (determined from email addresses / contacts). As you can tell, the webserver is currently responsing with 405 (Method Not Allowed) - does anyone know if there's a specific what I could or should be responding to these requests? Does IIS normally handle this (I have Apache)? Does request this normally get forwarded to a Microsoft Exchange Server (which my employer has)?

Date: 02/17/09 (Computer Geeks)    Keywords: microsoft

You guys are all going to laugh when you hear I am working with less than 400 mb of free space on my harddrive.
    Problem:
I would like to move say my music on to an external hd. Easy enough would not requirement me to post on here. The problem is I am sick and tired of hooking up the USB cable when I am on my laptop in bed. I went out and bought the Buffalo 500 gig LinkStation.

Get home, plug the new harddrive into the router. If I click in my network place. Nothing shows up...not even the 10/100 or wireless icon and yet it works fine so I don't mess with it. The only way for me to transfer files from my laptop HD to the Buffalo HD is through the Buffalo program (NAS navigator) they give you. The harddrive does not show up in either my networks or my computer.

I would like to put music that I use less frequently but still listen to on this harddrive and be able to play it in itunes. When I go into itunes and browse I see my networks..click on it and go into entire network...then Microsoft network and then slows down and brings me to workgroup

What am I doing wrong? I would like to free up space on this harddrive without using wires. Any help would GREAT!

Date: 01/24/09 (HTML Help)    Keywords: web, microsoft

I don't know if you can help me but it's worth a try.  I have a small website that I started working on last year.  I didn't know much at all about how to go about it so I used Microsoft Publisher to create the pages I needed.   Just a week ago I switched over to Dreamweaver on a Mac instead of a PC. It connected to my webhost and I was able to get the files but when I tried to upload the edited first page, It is not even recognized. My host is Dreamhost and most of the time their language is way over my head when I go to their site.  Do you have any idea what ai should do so that I can begin to revise and update my site?

  12. Trouble Extracting Files

Date: 03/13/09 (Computer Geeks)    Keywords: microsoft

    Hey guys,

I've been troubleshooting this problem for a couple of weeks and it's quite the puzzle (to me anyways).

I've been trying to install Adobe Creative Suite CS4 SE and I continue to get error messages. I'm installing on a brand new sata hard drive. Here's my specs:

    AMD Athlon 7750 Dual-Core Processor 2.71 GHz
    GIgabyte GA-MA770-UD3
    3.0 GB RAM
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition V2002 SP2

It will begin to extract the files and then a message will pop up saying that "there was a problem installing the following programs: .... ". Basically, all the stuff I don't need (language packs, pics) will install, but not the programs.

When I try to go back to CS3, I will get an message saying "there was problem extracting the files, please check if you have proper write permissions".

I've also tried installing Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 and I will get an error saying that it cannot read one of the CAB files.

I also tried installing a downloaded trial version of Photoshop/Illustrator, which I downloaded from Adobe.com, and I received the same errors.

I also had problems with MS Office installing (kept saying certain CAB files were corrupt), but managed to get that installed. Currently trying to install Windows SP3, I get an error message saying 'Extraction failed, file is corrupt'.

I believe this is an issue with my computer rather than the programs? This was my first home built computer so I'm worried I messed something up that's preventing this installation.

Oh, and I've tried all the solutions listed here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb404127&sliceId=1

I currently have a case number with Adobe after a 1238712937 hour ordeal. Still no call back though.

I was turning on to Mission College Blvd on my way to work this morning and I saw some GIANT ANIMAL MONSTER BALOONS outside Yahoo's building.

I did a doubletake on the first baloon, then didn't think much of it for several seconds before I saw the second one. That was really comical since it was a big fat baloon CAT choking two baloon people LOL

Along with all that I saw some people picketing.

I searched the news and found that this is a part of the protest on net search censorship against the major search engines (Yahoo, Google, Microsoft):

  19. Display settings gone crazy

Date: 05/11/11 (Computer Help)    Keywords: browser, virus, web, microsoft, google

Hello, I've recently been dealing with computer trouble, and now that I'm past the worst of it, I've come to ask about something that's making me nutty: my display settings.

Problem in a nutshell: My programs (e.g. Internet Explorer, iTunes, Microsoft Word) don't seem to want to follow my designated screen resolution of 1024 by 768.

    OS: Windows XP SP3

Web Browser: Internet Explorer 7 (I prefer it to the newer versions.)

Level of Experience: Probably easiest to say beginner

Problem: Because I unfortunately was victim of a rootkit a few weeks ago, my computer had to be wiped, and Windows was reinstalled. Since I got it back today, I've been building my computer to how it was before the virus, but my display settings are all off. I have a wide screen, and my default resolution before the virus was 1024 by 768 (I like it that way), so I restored it to that resolution. While I've taken pains to make my desktop look somewhat normal, my programs (e.g. Internet Explorer, iTunes) look rather larger and wider than they should in their screens. This is thoroughly annoying in Internet Explorer especially, since I don't like using full screen view (I don't use full screen for any programs). How do I get my programs (my desktop doesn't really seem to want to cooperate, either) to view normally?

Troubleshooting? -I messed with the space between my icons in the appearance section of the Display Properties, but this only affected the desktop. The toolbar at the bottom of my desktop still looks odd.
-I tried zooming in and out in Internet Explorer; didn't solve anything.
-I tried changing my dpi in the Display Properties, but to no avail.
-I've searched google several times but have found no help for this sort of problem.

Just for references, I'll include before and after screenshots from my display:

    Photobucket
This is basically how my computer looked before it broke.

    Photobucket
This is how my computer looks now: bloated toolbar and super wide IE page--the same facebook page takes up much more room.

This problem isn't dire, but it's MADDENING. If anyone has good ideas how to solve this, I would be extremely grateful. Thanks!

this is on my domain controller, this is a HP raid5 array consisting of 4 72gb scsi disks. how can you get bad clusters on a raided drive? how can I know which physical drive is failing?

did I actually lose any data/get any data corruption?

I have backups of course, the problem if its hardware failure, and I am going to do migration to windows 2008 r2 from windows 2003, it will still take sometime to initiate things, buying a single replacement scsi might be viable but if I can't identify the drive and have to get 4 scsi drives and rebuild the array 1 disk at the time, it would be problematic not to mention prone to disaster.
