Hello there!

Hi, I'm new to the community, yet a long-time Firefox and Thunderbird user. I admit I was very stupid and when i bought MS Office 2003, I was using Microcrap Outhouse and Internet Exploder, then I tried Ace Exploder and realized it was just the same thing with tabs, blergh. I'm happy to announce I shall forever be a Mozilla user. Is Sunbird worth getting? I don't really need a calendar application, but it is nice to have one. Also, a Thunderbird question, if you download stationary for Outhouse Distress, can you use it in Thunderbird? Oh yes, and one more Thunderbird question. I have the newest release of Thunderbird and can check my GMail account using GMail's smtp and pop settings and their ports, but my ISP uses P110 and S25 and I can't for the life of me get Thunderbird to download its messages without making both accounts conform to one setting, grr. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Thunderbird, but all the settings were the same... perhaps I should do some kind of more complete uninstall or something. Sorry for rambling so much on my first post.

Firefox: Issue with the My Documents folder
Date: 06/09/05
Keywords: no keywords
Whenever (and wherever/however) I install Firefox, the cookies, bookmarks, etc. all get dumped into the My Documents folder, which is inconvenient and unlike the way Firefox normally behaves. On my desktop rig, it installs these files where it should: in C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox. I can delete the files, but they reappear every time I launch Firefox.
What am I doing wrong? How can I stop this from happening?

Thunderbird: Junk Mail to Trash?
Date: 06/07/05
Keywords: no keywords
For some reason, when I recently reinstalled Thunderbird, the Junk Mail Controls stopped sending items marked as "Junk" automatically to my Junk folder. I've adjusted the Junk Mail Controls several times, but no luck - they just sit in my Inbox marked as "Junk" unless I do it manually (either one by one or with the "Send Mail Marked as Junk to Trash" control).
Any clue as to what I should do?

Netscape 8.0
Date: 06/02/05
Keywords: browser
I read irishmasms's post about Netscape 8.0. First, I never use the .0 releases (tend to be very buggy) but I am concerned that it is browser only. Is Netscape scrapping the combined browser/email client idea? I hope not, because that is the main reason I stick with Netscape. Does anyone know?

problem sending/forwarding emails with my Netscape mail account & Netscape 7.2 mail client
Date: 06/02/05
Keywords: browser, html, web, spam
I am having a problem sending/forwarding emails with my Netscape mail account & Netscape 7.2 mail client. More specifically, I am trying to forward spam to my spamcop.com account [http://www.spamcop.net/] to automatically LART the headers & content. (I forward the spam emails as an attachment to my SpamCop account address, it parses out the spam email(s), then emails me back with a link to a web from with the email parsed out and I select who I LART. Dam slick, IMHO) Everything was working fine before this past weekend.
Now, when I try to forward a single or multiple spam emails I get the following error:
Alert
An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 554 AOL will not accept delivery of this message.
TRANSACTION FAILED. Please check the message and try again.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
By the way:
Please do NOT say to use Thunderbird - I already tried this a few months back, and the Netscape / AOhelL mail server does not recognize the client; something is specifically written into the Netscape mail client to authenticate to their servers, and I have been unable to figure it out. Unless you have a solution to the problem
Please do NOT say to upgrade to Netscape 8 - I tried the new version over the weekend, and the mail client is gone, and the Netscape account is opened in some funky assed web browser interface (separate than logging into the account from netscape.com) where you can not turn off HTML email or anything else to make it 'safer'. IMHO, it sucks.
x-posted
Edit: edit post due to comment of it being seemingly 'rude', and corrected the Mozilla project stand alone email client name to Thunderbird.

I have Thunderbird (TB) linked to my Gmail account. It's nice and working fine. However I want to be able to delete an email in TB and have it deleted off the gmail server. I would like to use TB to organize my email but have the changes affect gmail online. I haven't figured out how. Any advice?
Also, anyone recommend any exts for TB that work with Gmail? Thanks

Any Thunderbird RSS gurus out there?
Date: 05/31/05
Keywords: php, rss, html, xml, web
I just started using Thunderbird as an RSS reader and I'm noticing strange behavior with my feed. If I load up http://www.perturb.org/rss.php in thunderbird the entries it displays are links to web pages. When I view one of those feeds it shows that entry as it is embeded on the webpage. If I look at one of the entries from http://www.lessig.org/blog/index.xml the entry shows the raw text that's in the RSS feed no HTML requests made.
Considering the first feed is from my blog, how do I make Thunderbird show the raw content, instead of the HTML. It's exported correctly. Bloglines sees the content just fine. Is there a Thunderbird setting I'm missing?

Problems with Thunderbird 1.0.2 on XP
Date: 05/31/05
Keywords: hosting
Hello, All.
I have been having this terribly annoying problem with Thunderbird on my XP ever since I got it and was hoping someone here may know of a fix. Whenever I check my email, wether it be a profile for only one email account or a profile with three email accounts, I get a pop up warning window that says, "Unable to connect to your IMAP Server. You may have exceeded the maximum number of connections to this server. If so, use teh Advanced IMAP Server Settings dialog to reduce the number of cached connections."
I have contacted my hosting company and it's not on their end as they reportedly do not get these errors when they use Thunderbird, and I have also reduced the cached connections to zero, no difference.
Does anyone have any ideas? It's terribly annoying as it won't let me view the inbox/outbox/sent/trash/etc unless I close a reopen to view a different folder due to this "caching" problem.
Cheers,
D.
PS. Does anyone else also notice that if they open their profiles and click on the profile and hit okay too quickly it wont load Thunderbird, but keep a process open in the background instead preventing an further processes of Thunderbird until you end-task it? If i open the profiles, wait a moment and then hit okay. the app loads fine.
PPS. Sorry to post in Firefox, nobody seems to be able to help in Mozthunderbird and Mozilla

Firefox Troubles
Date: 05/30/05
Keywords: browser
Hi! I think this a great community here and I have a problem with Firefox that I'm wondering is able to be resolved here.
Ever since I've made my conversion to Speakeasy broadband and downloaded their "version" of the browser with their add-ons; Firefox has been unable to load pages for me. I use a router and have no proxy settings so - I set the internet detection settings to be "directly connected to the internet". But I'm still having problems loading anything. I've also changed my personal firewall settings to allow the browser to browse as freely as IE does.
I really loved this browser and it just makes me cringe to use IE everyday now again. Please help!

Slavishly paraphrased from Slashdot...
Date: 05/29/05
Keywords: xml, java
"Mozilla's Deer Park 1 Alpha RC appears to have extended the Javascript specification. New features include Array object methods "every" (logical AND), "some" (logical OR), "map" (function mapping), and "forEach" (iteration). They also appear to have added native XML support."
So, what do you all think? I'm just musing here, but since the new array object methods are not part of the ECMAscript specification can we still tout conformance to "just the specification and only the specification" as a Firefox feature? Are these the first steps in the dreaded embrace and extend? Would such superfluous arguments be mitigated if such constructs and methods were enforced as not usable, or maybe just flagged as warnings in the console when called outside of XUL jars?
Qvacks?

Hey there, first post blah blah blah...

Okay, so I've had this problem before but nowhere near this bad.
I have a laptop that will occasionally restart itself for fun when I'm in the middle of working on it. I'ev found that this screws with Mozilla. Unfortunetly this often means that I'll turn on Mozilla and all my prefrences/options/themes will be reset to default. This is easily fixed if not a little annoying.
The question? This happened to me today and all of my three hundred plus bookmarks are now gone. Is there any way to retrieve them or does anybody have any idea where Mozilla stores the files (Like with IE's favorites).
I would be eternally greatful for any help at all. Thank you.

Problems with Thunderbird

I've been having a problem with Mozilla Thunderbird. Once I write to
someone, it tries to save that e-mail in my "Sent Folder." Whenever it
tries to do this, it is unsuccesful. The little progress bar scrolls
across repeatedly, but nothing ever happens. I can leave it there for
minutes, but it will still be unsuccessful. I use Thunderbird with my
AOL e-mail account. How can I get Thunderbird to save my sent e-mails?
Thanks for all help.
