  5. mail

Date: 12/09/07 (PHP Community)    Keywords: rss, database

My mail script has gotten rather long and complex, so I'd like to move the code off of each page that requires an email to be sent.
I've thought about using an include, but I want something cleaner. My emails are a standard template, just notification that a change has been made. The only difference is who the email gets sent to.
This is where my novice will show ... what I want is the ability to put just one line on the page something like ...

    mail2user($emailaddress)

I'd pull the email address from my database as the script runs and the "mail2user" would know to pass the $emailaddrss variable to that "function"???

    Is this possible?

Date: 01/09/08 (PHP Development)    Keywords: php, rss, browser, google

This may not be a PHP issue, but I'm trying to cover all my options here.

I have written a photoblog site at http://eye.thelovebug.org/

As you can see, it works a treat through a browser, and also by using wget. However, if I try and validate the site, I get a 400 Bad Request error.

The same problem occurs with my homemade RSS feed at http://eye.thelovebug.org/rss.php

Again, works great with a browser and wget, but doesn't validate or load in Google Reader (or other RSS aggregator), or LiveJournal. Same 400 error.

  9. Thunderbird RSS questions

Date: 10/21/08 (Mozilla)    Keywords: rss, google

As of late, I've been using Thunderbird as my RSS feeder. I've run into two inconveniences, however.

    * Embedded media (Youtube vids, etc.) don't seem to show up on the pages in the feed. Is there an option or an addon that would allow the media to appear?

ETA: Apparently it's a case of being able to view flash in Thunderbird. Is that possible?

    * When I click on a RSS link, it goes to google's page asking me if I want it on igoogle or google reader. Is there a way that it could automatically go to Thunderbird?

    Thanks in advance.

  11. Cannot install 9.27

Date: 08/02/08 (Opera Browser)    Keywords: rss

    Hi all,
I installed Opera 9.50 shortly after it came out (and then 9.51 too), and I've had nothing but problems since: many inexplicable crashes (generally when I open a new tab), and problems with RSS feeds. I gave up on it at last today and tried to reinstall 9.27. When I try to launch the setup file, though, I get an error: "Error reading setup initialization file" and it exits. Is there any way around this? I'd rather not uninstall 9.5 yet, as I want to keep it around to access already-received emails/feed items for a while yet.

  13. RSS feeds.

Date: 01/27/09 (PHP Community)    Keywords: rss, web

Anyone have a good suggestion for open source/free code that will let me pull RSS feeds into a web page (in this case it is a cheap quick option to pull in news items the client posts to a Wordpress blog). Preferably code that will cache the feed locally in some manner and update it using cron, so as to minimize the response-time impact of a live feed.

    Suggestions?
